| CURRENT EVENTS | | Farewell to Giuliano Bignasca, esteemed member of USI's Foundation for the Lugano Faculties Promoter and supporter of our University since its very first steps, Giuliano Bignasca passed away last week, he was 67 years old. To his family our deepest condolences from USI. Bignasca had
been for eight years a member of the Foundation that aims at promoting the development of USI Lugano faculties, and supports their interaction with the regional territory. | | RECOGNITION | | Awards conferred on USI Students in Finland The HUMLOG Institute, a benchmark for research in the field of humanitarian logistics, bestowed the first award for best thesis in the field on Rose van Steijn for "the novelty of the thesis, including the novelty of its methods, and the potential to impact on humanitarian logistics practice". Honorary mention also to another MASHLM graduate, Tony Villy Odong. More Information. | | FACULTY OF INFORMATICS | | SwissEngineering Ticino 2013 Awards The Ticino's branch of the Swiss networks of engineers and architects awarded the prize dedicated to USI students to Remo Lemma (Master of Science in Informatics - Software Design), currently PhD student at the
faculty. An Honorary mention went to Miguel Aguilar (Master of Science in Embedded Systems Design), who started his PhD at RWTH Aachen in Germany. On Wednesday, 13 March at 8.30pm, in the Aula Magna of Lugano Campus, the expert in pharmacology Daniela Parolaro and Psychiatrist Raffaella Ada Colombo will hold a lecture in which they will tackle about Cannabis and if the use of the latter might reduce intellectual ability. The encounter is part of Brain Awareness Week of the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, an initiative that sees the cooperation of USI's Ideatorio.
