| NUMBERS SPEAK | | The Number of USI's Students is growing again. Positive are also the Figures on Graduates Occupational Placement For the Academic Year 2012-2013, USI serves a total of 2,919 students, 53 more than last year. 34.3% of registered students come from Switzerland, 41.2% from Italy and the remaining 24.5% from other countries. Regarding occupation of our graduates, the 2012 survey shows that 91.7% of USI's students found an occupation within a year from graduation (74.2% work professionally and 15.2% are studying). The percentage of students who found an occupation within 5 years from graduation rose at 98%. More Information. | | AWARDS | | Helmholtz Award 2013 to Jürgen Schmidhuber At IDSIA since 1995, an USI-SUPSI mutual Institution, prof. Schmidhuber is a researcher of Artificial Intelligence. The
prestigious award was assigned for his excellent and important contribution in understanding the perceptions and human feelings in the field of neural networks. The prize is the crowning achievement of a series of international awards conferred to IDSIA, which earned the Institute a mention on the International Herald Tribune. More Information. | | IN SUPPORT OF TICINO'S BEST STUDENTS | | Harley-Davidson Club Ticino new Scholarship The club established two annual scholarships of CHF 4,000. All Swiss students who reside in Ticino will be eligible upon admission to the University or if regularly registered to a Bachelor programme (II or III year) or Master at USI. Applications must be submitted by 18 January, 2013 and a special commission will confer the scholarship based on merit. Boston The 20 start-ups selected will take part in a programme about business development, as part of the national initiative venturelab. A unique chance to connect with American start-ups, experts and venture capital firms. The programme also includes a four-days entrepreneurship course at Babson College. Registration by 1 March, 2013. More Information. | | DONATING IS BLOODY GOOD | | Tuesday's Blood Drive has been a success: thanks everyone! The event organised by the Swiss Red Cross Blood Transfusion Centre in cooperation with USI had an excellent outcome. 61 volunteers showed up at the stand: 49 were found eligible to donate blood (35 women and 14 men) and about 25 litres of blood were collected to cure 98 patients, covering a full day of transfusions in Ticino. | | TEN YEARS OF STUDY
IN ONE BOOK | | Health Management: principles, local and international experiences, perspectives Published by Salvioni (Bellinzona 2012), the volume was edited by prof. Stefano Calciolari and Marco Meneguzzo, under the patronage of the Swiss School of Public Health. It is a manual for post graduate education, also valuable for professionals in the field of healthcare. The book represents a milestone for the activity in research and training carried out for ten years by the Public Health Policy, Economics and Management of USI's Institute of Economics, and a contribution to the debate on the changes of the Swiss Healthcare system. | | INVITATION TO BID | | Awards for the best Bachelor, Master and PhD Thesis Last week NZZ Campus and MakingScienceNews have launched a competition for the next year.
