OSPITE ALL’USI UN PREMIO TURING, IL "NOBEL" DELL'INFORMATICA
Joseph Sifakis parteciperà all'edizione 2010 del convegno FMCAD
Si tratta della prima volta che la conferenza Formal Methods in Computer Aided Design (FMCAD), uno dei principali convegni internazionali sulla teoria e l’applicazione dei metodi formali (basati su analisi logico-matematiche) per la verifica automatica, ha luogo al di fuori degli Stati Uniti. L'edizione 2010 è co-presieduta dalla prof. assistente Natasha Sharygina e si terrà dal 20 al 23 ottobre presso la nostra Facoltà di scienze informatiche. Sifakis, vincitore del Turing Award nel 2007, riconoscimento che in campo informatico è paragonabile al premio Nobel, terrà il suo intervento la mattina del 21 ottobre. Siete interessati ad approfondire i temi affrontati dal più importante appuntamento espositivo dell’autunno 2010 a Lugano: “Nippon. Tra mito e realtà: arte e cultura del Paese del Sol Levante”? Partecipate agli Incontri autunnali d'arte, proposti dalla Società Ticinese di Belle Arti e presentati nell'ambito dell'iniziativa C@USI. Incontri culturali all'USI, promossa dal TEC-Lab. Aperte le iscrizioni a ConfronTi 2010
L'edizione 2010 è intitolata "Tecnoscienza e innovazione: motori di crescita e sviluppo aziendale e regionale – futuribili, megatrends e nuove opportunità di sviluppo a lungo termine". Il tema della crescita economica e dello sviluppo imprenditoriale e regionale del prossimo decennio, in un momento di rottura di paradigmi come quello che stiamo vivendo, è di stretta attualità. ConfronTI è un appuntamento annuale a supporto dell'economia e del territorio ticinese organizzato dall'IRE e dal suo Centro per l'Osservazione delle Dinamiche Economiche (CODE). Avrà luogo il 30 novembre al centro seminariale Monte Verità di Ascona. Programma dettagliato.

• Proiezione di Io non ho paura (2003), film di G. Salvatores: avrà luogo mercoledì 20 ottobre alle ore 20:00, in auditorio (campus di Lugano). Il film è in lingua italiana con sottotitoli in inglese.
• "Il genere nelle organizzazioni": un seminario che si terrà venerdì 22 ottobre alle ore 14.00, in aula A14 (campus di Lugano). L'evento è organizzato dal Servizio Gender e animato dalla Dr. Barbara Poggio. L'obiettivo è spiegare, attraverso più prospettive, e riflettere criticamente sulle asimmetrie tra donne e uomini in contesti lavorativi e istituzionali.
• Curiosità: è stato recentemente inaugurato in un parco pubblico del Senese il primo arredo urbano interattivo in Italia, che permette ai visitatori di accedere al web gratuitamente e con un gesto della mano. Il progetto si chiama Wi-Roni e alla sua realizzazione ha contribuito la Dr.ssa Elisa Rubegni, ricercatrice del TEC-Lab.

USI HOSTS WINNER OF A TURING AWARD , THE "NOBEL PRIZE" OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
Joseph Sifakis will open the 2010 edition of FMCAD
This is the first time that the Formal Methods in Computer Aided Design (FMCAD) conference, the premier conference on the theory and applications of formal (mathematical) analysis in computer-aided design and verification, has taken place outside of the US. The 2010 edition is co-chaired by Asst. Prof. Natasha Sharygina and will run from October 20th to 23rd at the USI Faculty of Informatics. Sifakis, winner of the 2007 Turing Award, a recognition paramount to the Nobel in the field of informatics,  will deliver his speech the morning of October 21st. More information on the event.

Art and culture of Japan
Are you interested in exploring the topics discussed at the most important event of the 2010 autumn exhibition in Lugano, “Nippon. Between myth and reality: art and culture of the Land of the Rising Sun"? Participate at the autumn art series, provided by the Società Ticinese di Belle Arti and presented as part of the initiative C@USI. Cultural events at USI, organised by TEC-Lab. Enrolment opens for ConfronTi 2010
The 2010 edition is entitled, "Tecnoscience and innovation: engines of growth and development for businesses and the region – futuribles, megatrends and development opportunities for the long term". The theme of economic growth and entrepreneurial and regional development for the next decade is topical, considering the time of paradigms such as the one we are experiencing. ConfronTI is an annual event to support the economy and the territory of Canton Ticino. The event is organized by IRE and its Centre for the Observation of Economic Dynamics (CODE). It will take place November 30th at the conference centre of Monte Verità in Ascona. Detailed programme

• Film to be screened in USI auditorium (Lugano Campus). Io non ho paura (I’m not scared, 2003) directed by G. Salvatores and based on Niccolò Ammaniti's successful Italian novel will be presented Wednesday, October 20th at 08:00pm. The film is in Italian with English subtitles.
• The "Gender in organizations" seminar will take place Friday, October 22nd at 2pm (classroom A14, Lugano Campus). The seminar is organized by the Gender service and features Dr. Barbara Poggio. She will explain multiple perspectives on the topic and critically reflect upon the asymmetries between women and men in workplace and institutional contexts.

• Interesting fact: recently inaugurated, a Siena public park features the first interactive urban design in Italy, allowing visitors to log onto the web for free with just the touch of a hand. The project is called, “Wi-Roni”, and Dr. Elisa Rubegni, Post-doc research assistant at TEC-Lab, contributed to its realisation.
