Science? The German Professor Olaf Schenk received his PhD in computing from ETH Zurich. At USI his research work covers several fields from computational mathematics to high performance computing. He currently teaches computational
sciences for the Faculty of Informatics. His inaugural lecture will be held on Thursday, 4 October at 5.30pm in the Auditorium on Lugano Campus. Choices The distinguished Professor at the Università Bocconi Milan and well known columnist for the Corriere della Sera will open the activities of the new Centre for Economic and Political Research
on Aging (CEPRA) with a public lecture that will be held on Monday, 8 October at 5.30pm on Lugano Campus. The Centre has been established under USI's Institute of Economics with the goal of promoting policy debate and scientific research on aging, pension and health care issues. More Information. | | "LESSONS IN ARCHITECTURE" AT THE ACADEMY | | An Encounter with Architect João Nunes The cycle of public lectures organised by the Academy of Architecture resumes with the beginning of the new academic year. The first lecture for the series Lessons in Architecture will be held on Thursday, 4 October at 8pm in the Aula Magna on Mendrisio campus by João Nunes; a landscape architect representative of a school of thought that focuses on landscape, the territory and sustainable planning. At the conference Science Comm'12 held last 28 September, USI's Ideatorio presented the results of a comprehensive survey, which shows that citizens support the idea of giving up nuclear power, but clearly
they do not perceive the repercussions and complexity of such choice. Many think that the energy gap that will come as a result could be easily compensated by wind and solar power overestimating the real supply of such resources.
