	NUOVI RICONOSCIMENTI PER MICHELE PARRINELLO
	*Premio Enrico Fermi 2012* e altre onorificenze** La Società italiana di fisica ha attribuito l'autorevole premio al professore (vincitore nel 2011 del "Nobel svizzero") insieme a Roberto Car per la messa a punto del metodo di dinamica molecolare universalmente noto con i loro nomi. Il riconoscimento si aggiunge all'Hirschfelder Prize 2012 in chimica teorica, che gli sarà consegnato in ottobre alla University of Wisconsin, all'Honorary degree della University of St. Andrews (Scozia), ricevuto in giugno, e alla prestigiosa nomina a membro dell'American Academy of Arts & Sciences: l'investitura, che vedrà tra gli onorati anche Clint Eastwood e Hillary Clinton, si terrà in ottobre a Cambridge (US) Per saperne di più.
	ACCADEMIA PROTAGONISTA ALLA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA
	Leone d'argento ai Grafton Architects La coppia di Dublino (Yvonne Farrell e Shelley McNamara) è stata premiata alla 13. Mostra internazionale di architettura per il progetto del nuovo campus dell'Università di Lima in Perù. 	ACCADEMIA TRA ARCHITETTURA E STORIA DELL'ARTE
	Giorgio Agamben alla Cattedra Borromini L'eminente filosofo italiano sarà il primo titolare di questo insegnamento di alto profilo, nato nel contesto del nuovo Istituto di storia e teoria dell'arte (ISA). 	Federica De Rossa Gisimundo nominata alla PostCom La ricercatrice ticinese è stata scelta dal Consiglio federale per fare parte della nuova autorità di regolazione del mercato postale. L'organo ha il compito, tra l'altro, di garantire che la qualità del servizio corrisponda ai requisiti di legge e di gestire la conciliazione nelle procedure relative alla chiusura di uffici postali. 	DANTE ALIGHIERI RIVIVE ALL'USI
	Carlo Ossola apre le Lecturae Dantis Il professore inaugurerà il ciclo organizzato dall'ISI mercoledì 19 settembre alle 18 nell'auditorio del Campus di Lugano con un intervento dal titolo Comedìa. I mercoledì successivi altri docenti dell'ISI e professori invitati rinnoveranno la tradizione della lettura con commento del testo dantesco in lezioni aperte a tutti. Per saperne di più.
	SEDUTA ORDINARIA DEL CONSIGLIO DELL'UNIVERSITA'
	Piero Martinoli in carica fino al 31 maggio 2015 Oltre al rinnovo del mandato del presidente, nella seduta del 13 luglio si è anche preso atto della nomina da parte del Consiglio di Stato di due nuovi membri, Davide Bassi (Rettore dell'Università di Trento) e Marina Cattaruzza (Prof. ordinaria di storia contemporanea all'Università di Berna); lascia invece dopo 10 anni di impegno Enrico Decleva, Rettore dell'Università degli studi di Milano. 	DALL'USI ALLA CINA
	Lorenzo Masiero scelto alla Hong Kong Polytechnic University Il ricercatore è stato nominato professore assistente di Tourism management and policy alla School of Hotel and Tourism Management dell'ateneo cinese e ha quindi dovuto lasciare la direzione dell'Osservatorio del turismo dell'USI. L'estate in breve

Il 12 agosto si è spento Giorgio Salvadé, uno dei fondatori dell'USI.
Altri due lutti hanno colpito l'USI: l'8 giugno si è spento il prof. Ulrich Saxer, professore ordinario dal 1997 al 2001; l'8 settembre si è spento il prof. Robin Pedler, che ha insegnato per 10 anni a EMSCom e per 5 al Master in Corporate Communication.
IRB: i ricercatori del'istituto, affiliato all'USI, hanno individuato gli "spazzini" molecolari che difendono dallo "stress" cellulare e le cause del pemfigo; il prof. Giorgio Noseda ha lasciato la presidenza, assunta da Gabriele Gendotti.
Il prof. Stefano Calciolari guiderà la parte affidata all'USI di un progetto di ricerca europeo sulle cure integrate.
Varie ricerche guidate dal prof. Lorenzo Cantoni sono state citate in un rapporto dell'OCSE, organizzazione internazionale di alto profilo, e premiate dall'EDEN all'annuale conferenza.
Il prof. Francesco Lurati si è aggiudicato il Best Scholar Award 2012.
L'USI ha consegnato 112 diplomi di Master of Science in Architecture e 23 diplomi in Gestione della formazione.

	NEW ACHIEVEMENTS FOR MICHELE PARRINELLO
	Prize Enrico Fermi 2012 and other Awards "The Italian Physical Society" awarded the prestigious prize to the Professor (recipient of the 2011 Benoist Prize also known as the Swiss Nobel Prize) and to Roberto Car. The award has been assigned for their work on computer modeling in the field of molecular dynamics. Other achievements assigned to Professor Parrinello are: the Hirschfelder Prize 2012 in Theoretical Chemistry to be conferred in October at the University of Wisconsin, an Honorary Degree conferred in June by the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and the prestigious appointment as member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Clint Eastwood and Hillary Clinton will also take part in the induction ceremony to be held in October in Cambridge, US. More Information.
	THE ACADEMY: A STAR AT THE BIENNALE IN VENICE
	... and the Silver Lion goes to the Grafton Architects Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara from Dublin received the Prize during the 13th Architecture Biennale for their project of the new Campus of the University of Lima in Perù. The two Irish architects were recently nominated Full Professors in Architectural Design at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio. More Information.
	THE ACADEMY BETWEEN ARCHITECTURE AND ART HISTORY
	Giorgio Agamben for the Cattedra Borromini The distinguished Italian Philosopher will be the first to hold this high profile teaching position of the new Institute for the History and Theory of Art and Architecture (ISA). The new post includes a series of public lectures and it has been presented on 12 September together with the list of courses for the academic year 2012-2013, with the schedule of the lecture series Finis Urbis?, Lezioni di Architettura and exhibitions. 	A BIT OF USI AT THE GOVERNMENT
	Federica De Rossa Gisimundo appointed at PostCom The researcher from Canton Ticino has been appointed to PostCom: the new federal authority created to regulate the postal system. The controlling body has also the task to ensure that the quality of the service meets all legal requirements, and manages post offices closing and transfer procedures. More Information.
	DANTE ALIGHIERI COMES BACK TO LIFE AT USI
	Carlo Ossola to open the Lecturae Dantis The Professor will open the series organised by ISI on Wednesday, 19 September at 6pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus, with a lecture entitled Comedìa. Each following Wednesday, ISI's and guest Professors will hold public lectures with readings and commentary of Dante's work. The lectures are open to anyone interested. More Information.
	UNIVERSITY BOARD ORDINARY SESSION
	Piero Martinoli in office until 31 May 2015 On 13 July, in addition to the renewal of the President's mandate, the board also took note of the appointment of two new members by the State Council: Davide Bassi (Provost of the University of Trento) and Marina Cattaruzza (Full History Professor at the University of Bern). Enrico Decleva (Provost of the University of Milan) ceased his cooperation after a 10 year long commitment. More Information.
	FROM USI TO CHINA
	Lorenzo Masiero at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University The Researcher was nominated Assistant Professor in Tourism Management and Policy at the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of the Chinese University. He resigned as Manager of USI's Observatory of Tourism. More Information.

Summer in Brief

On 12 August Giorgio Salvadé passed away. He was one of USI’s founding fathers.
This summer USI also lost two other distinguished members of the academic community : On 8 June Professor Ulrich Saxer, Full Professor from 1997 until 2001; On 8 September Professor Robin Pedler, who taught EMSCom and 5 other Masters in Corporate Communication.
A groundbreaking discovery has been made by IRB researchers (affiliated with USI) on the causes of pemphigus. The result of a study has been published, describing the mechanism used by our cells to prevent an outbreak of stress that would otherwise inevitably lead to death. Professor Giorgio Noseda resigned as President in favour of Gabriele Gendotti.
Professor Stefano Calciolari will lead USI's part of the European research project on integrated treatment.
Several researches from Professor Lorenzo Cantoni have been mentioned in the OCSE report and awarded by EDEN during their annual conference.
Professor Francesco Lurati received the Best Scholar Award 2012 .
USI assigned 112 degrees in Master of Science in Architecture and 23 degrees in Education Management.
