Informazione & Fisica: un racconto di segreti, demoni e terrificanti effetti a distanza

Giovedì 24 maggio alle 17.30 Stefan Wolf, professore di Crittografia e Informatica quantistica presso la Facoltà di scienze informatiche, terrà la sua lezione inaugurale nell'auditorio del campus di Lugano. L'intervento, in inglese, sarà incentrato sul proficuo rapporto tra fisica ed elaborazione dell'informazione.

A Lugano sarà assegnato il primo SwissParks.ch Award

La consegna avrà luogo martedì 22 maggio alle 11.30 nella Sala C del Palazzo dei Congressi di Lugano. Il premio è stato istituito quest'anno da SwissParks.ch, l'associazione mantello degli incubatori d'impresa di cui anche il Centro Promozione Start-up fa parte quale unica antenna ticinese. Il riconoscimento, dotato di CHF 10'000, andrà a chi testimonia meglio l'eccellenza della Svizzera nell'innovazione economica.

Architetti in Ri-Voluzione

"Canto le forme dei corpi che presero nuova figura". La frase che apre Le Metamorfosi di Ovidio è il miglior riassunto della performance di giovedì 24 maggio (ore 21) in Piazza Riforma a Lugano: sessanta studenti del 1° anno dell'Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio si esibiranno infatti in un esercizio sulle metamorfosi della forma. La manifestazione si svolge in collaborazione con il Dicastero giovani ed eventi di Lugano.

All'USI Salvatore Settis, presidente del Consiglio scientifico del Louvre

Paesaggio, ambiente e arte come beni comuni che ogni cittadino è chiamato a difendere dalla cementificazione e dal "dio mercato": sarà questo uno dei temi centrali della conferenza (in lingua italiana), organizzata dal Club Plinio Verda e patrocinata dall'USI. L'appuntamento con Salvatore Settis, storico dell'arte di fama internazionale, è martedì 22 maggio alle 18.30 nell'Aula magna del campus di Lugano.

Seconda edizione dell'USI-SUPSI Sport Happening

L'appuntamento è sabato 2 giugno dalle 10 alle 23 al Centro sportivo Valgersa di Savosa: si potrà gratuitamente accedere alla piscina e cimentarsi nel tiro con l'arco, nel ping pong e nel beach tennis. Per partecipare al torneo di beach volley o a quello di calcio a 7 sono richiesti un piccolo contributo e l'iscrizione entro il 25 maggio. E dopo le fatiche della giornata, pasta party, musica e capoeira. In caso di tempo incerto, il 2 giugno si potrà chiamare il numero telefonico 1600 dopo le 8.

Voci universitarie e Legendary Songs

Prima esibizione nella cornice dell'Aula magna del campus di Lugano per l'USI Coro, che mercoledì 23 maggio alle 20 proporrà una serata all'insegna delle canzoni leggendarie. Oltre agli universitari che fanno parte del coro, guidati dalla direttrice Candice Carmalt e accompagnati al pianoforte da Stefano Amitrano, si esibiranno come special guest i Carioca 6.

Vacanze scientifiche per bambini

Torna l'iniziativa rivolta ai bambini di 4a e 5a elementare e proposta da L'Ideatorio e dall'Istituto scolastico della Città di Lugano, in collaborazione con la Società ticinese di scienze naturali. La destinazione è Mascengo e il programma prevede solo due cose: scienza e soprattutto divertimento. Due i turni previsti (ognuno dei quali aperto a 20 bambini): dal 24 al 30 giugno e dall'1 al 7 luglio.

Information & Physics: A Tale of Secrets, Demons, and Spooky Actions

Stefan Wolf, Cryptography and Quantum Information Professor for the Faculty of Informatics will hold his inaugural lecture on Thursday, 24 May at 5.30pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus. The lecture held in English, will focus on the profitable relationship between physics and information processing.

The first SwissParks.ch Award to be presented in Lugano

The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 22 May at 11.30am in Room C of the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano. The award was established this year by SwissParks.ch, the National Association of incubators and technology parks. The Start-up Promotion Centre is the only member in Ticino. The 10,000 CHF prize will be assigned to those who best represent Switzerland in the field of economic innovation.

Architects in Re-Volution

"I sing about bodies changed into new forms". The opening sentence of Ovid Metamorphosis best sums up the performance that will take place on Thursday, 24 May at 9pm in Piazza Riforma, Lugano. Sixty freshmen from the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio will take part in an exercise on metamorphoses of form. The performance will be held in cooperation with the Dicastero giovani ed eventi di Lugano.

Salvatore Settis, President of Louvre Scientific Commitee at USI

Landscape, environment and art as commodities that every citizen is called upon to defend from overbuilding and the "god of the market". This will be one the themes that will be tackled during the lecture (held in Italian), organised by the Club Plinio Verda and sponsored by USI. The encounter with Salvatore Settis, internationally renowned art historian, is on Tuesday, 22 May at 6.30pm in the Aula Magna of Lugano Campus.

The Second USI-SUPSI Sport Happening

The event will be held on Saturday, 2 June from 10am to 11pm at the Centro sportivo Valgersa in Savosa. Free access to most of the activities including pool, archery, table tennis and beach tennis. Registration and payment of a small fee are required by 25 May in order to take part in the beach volley and seven-a-side soccer tournament. And after an exhausting day: pasta party, music and capoeira. In case of uncertain weather conditions, please call 1600, hotline active from 2 June at 8am.

University Voices and Legendary Songs

First performance in the setting of the Aula Magna of Lugano Campus for USI Coro, for an evening of Legendary Songs to be held on Wednesday, 23 May at 8pm. Conducted by director Candice Carmalt and accompanied by pianist Stefano Amitrano, the students members of the choir will take the stage with special guests Carioca 6.

Children Science Camp

Back again the event aimed at fourth and fifth grade children and promoted by the Ideatorio and the Istituto scolastico della Città di Lugano, in cooperation with the Società ticinese di scienze naturali. The destination is Mascengo and the schedule will revolve around two key activities: science and most of all fun. Two sessions will be offered (each open to 20 participants): from 24 to 30 June and from 1 to 7 July.
