Swiss Engineering Ticino premia i futuri ingeneri ed architetti

Il premio Premio Swiss Engineering Ticino, giunto alla 6a edizione, punta a sostenere la qualità nei percorsi formativi tecnici ed è promosso dalla sezione ticinese dell'Associazione svizzera degli ingegneri e degli architetti. In occasione dei 105 anni della fondazione dell'associazione il premio viene per la prima volta conferito anche alle scuole professionali tecniche e agli studenti della Facoltà di scienze informatiche dell'USI. A contendersi il riconoscimento, assegnato sulla base del lavoro di diploma e di un'audizione, saranno diversi neodiplomati della Scuola d'arti e mestieri, della SUPSI e dell'USI.

Riconoscimento a Gabriele Balbi per le sue ricerche sulle origini della radiotelegrafia e del broadcasting

Il Dr. Gabriele Balbi dell'Istituto di media e giornalismo della Facoltà di scienze della comunicazione dell'USI ha vinto la Douglas Byrne Marconi Fellowship 2012 promossa dalla Bodleain Library della Oxford University. Balbi, a Londra con una borsa di studio per ricercatori esordienti del Fondo Nazionale Svizzero per la Ricerca Scientifica, condurrà le sue ricerche all'interno degli archivi della Marconi Company. La proiezione della pellicola Tous Les Jours La Nuit (in francese con sottotitoli in inglese) sarà accompagnata dal commento del regista del film Jean-Claude Wicky. La pellicola è una sorta di viaggio all'interno delle miniere della Bolivia, un percorso storico e umano che Wicky ha ritratto con particolare sensibilità grazie ad un lavoro di raccolta di materiale durato circa 17 anni. L’appuntamento è per mercoledì 29 febbraio alle 17.00 in auditorio (campus di Lugano). L’evento, aperto a tutto il pubblico interessato, è organizzato dal Master of Advanced Studies in Intercultural Communication (MIC).

Michael Gibbert, full professor in marketing for the Faculty of Communication Sciences, will give his inaugural lecture entitled "Why Apples and Oranges are (dis-) similar and how it matters to marketing" on Wednesday, 1 March at 5.30pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus. The scope of inaugural lectures is to enable the newly-appointed professor to introduce himself and illustrate his discipline and corresponding field of research to the academic world and the whole USI community, and therefore facilitate his integration. Swiss Engineering Ticino to award future Engineers and Architects

Established six years ago, the Swiss Engineering Ticino Prize aims at supporting quality in technical education. It is promoted by the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (Ticino section). On the occasion of the Society's 105th Anniversary, the prize is for the first time also extended to trade schools and students of USI's Faculty of Informatics. Several students who recently graduated from the SAMS (School of Arts and Crafts), SUPSI and USI will contend for the recognition based on final projects and thesis and an interview.

Gabriele Balbi gets Recognition for his Researches on the Origins of Radiotelegraphy and Broadcasting

The Douglas Byrne Marconi Fellowship 2012 promoted by the Bodleain Library of Oxford University, was conferred to PhD Gabriele Balbi of the Institute for Media and Journalism (USI's Faculty of Communication Sciences). Balbi will conduct his researches at the London's archives of the Marconi Company with a scholarship for prospective researchers funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. More Information.

Everyday is night. Lives at the Center of the Earth

A screening with commentary by director Jean-Claude Wicky of his film Tous Les Jours La Nuit will take place on Wednesday, 29 February at 5pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus. A story about the life of miners in Bolivia told with photographs accompanied by dull explosions, hammering and brilliant film sequences. A Journey through the harsh everyday life of the people that work underground where they confront rock and speak with the devil. The event organized by the Master of Advanced Studies in Intercultural Communication (MIC) is open to the public.
