Riccardo Petrella è Professore emerito dell'Università Cattolica di Lovanio ed è stato Docente del corso di "Ecologia umana" presso l'Accademia di architettura dell'USI fino al 2011. Sarà il protagonista, giovedì 1 dicembre alle 20.00 nell'Aula magna del campus di Mendrisio (Palazzo Canavée), del prossimo appuntamento con le conferenze pubbliche organizzate dall'Accademia di architettura.

Dialogate con la pianista Edna Stern prima del suo spettacolo

Venerdì 2 dicembre, nell'ambito del ciclo "Per voce sola", si terrà il concerto solistico Memorie di Italia in musica con la pianista Edna Stern. Dopo il successo riscosso nella prima edizione, la pianista torna con una proposta tutta italiana, per rivivere in musica la storia d'Italia. Gli interessati hanno la possibilità di partecipare ad un breve seminario-atelier intitolato Franz Liszt e Francesco Petrarca. Una conversazione in note (ore 14.30, Teatro Foce, Lugano) in cui l'artista illustrerà, dialogando con il prof. Carlo Ossola e i presenti, il concerto in programma per la sera (ore 20.30).

Fritz Kutter Award 2011 a Alessandra Gorla

Il Fritz Kutter Award è un prestigioso riconoscimento della Fondazione Kutter del Politecnico Federale di Zurigo per la migliore tesi di dottorato con applicazioni industriali. Quest'anno il premio è stato assegnato alla Dr.ssa Alessandra Gorla, che ha svolto il proprio dottorato di ricerca dal titolo Automatic Workarounds: Exploiting the Intrinsic Redundancy of Software Systems nella Facoltà di scienze informatiche, sotto la supervisione dei prof. Mauro Pezzè e Antonio Carzaniga.

Cambiamenti e prospettive del mercato del lavoro in Ticino

Organizzata dal Servizio Alumni in collaborazione con HR Ticino e l'USI Alumni Association, il dibattito si terrà mercoledì 30 novembre alle 18.00 in aula A11 (campus di Lugano). I relatori, moderati dal Direttore del Corriere del Ticino Giancarlo Dillena, discuteranno del mercato del lavoro in Ticino, concentrandosi in particolare su alcuni temi specifici tra i quali l'andamento attuale dell'economia e le relative conseguenze per il mercato del lavoro e per i salari, l'impatto dell'immigrazione e l'importanza della formazione continua.

Strada spazio pubblico

Venerdì 2 dicembre dalle ore 14.00 alle ore 18.00 in aula C.0.62 (Palazzo Canavée campus di Mendrisio) interverranno Michele Arnaboldi, Francesco Allievi, Federica Corso Talento e Enrico Sassi sul tema "Strada spazio pubblico". La conferenza si inserisce in un ciclo di sei conferenze annue aperte al pubblico sui temi legati alla qualità dello spazio pubblico e alla cultura del territorio promosse dal progetto di ricerca del fondo nazionale PNR65 condotto dal professore architetto Michele Arnaboldi.

Presentazione del documentario: Dreamwork China

L'Istituto Media e Giornalismo vi invita venerdì 2 dicembre alle ore 14:00 nell'aula A13 (palazzo rosso) alla presentazione del documentario Dreamwork China organizzata dal corso di Cinema documentario e dall'Osservatorio sui Media in Cina. L'iniziativa sarà introdotta dalla professoressa Cristina Lasagni dell'USI e dagli autori Tommaso Facchin e Ivan Franceschini.

The City of Common Resources. A New Mediterranean

Riccardo Petrella is Professor Emeritus at the Università Cattolica of Lovanio and was lecturer of the "Human Ecology" course at USI's Academy of Architecture until 2011. On Thursday 1 December in the Aula Magna of Mendrisio Campus at 8pm, he will host the next public lecture of the series Mare Nostrum organized by the Academy of Architecture.

A Talk with Pianist Edna Stern

On Friday 2 December the pianist Edna Stern will perform "Memories of Italy", a concert from the series "Per voce sola". After her first successful appearance, the artist makes her comeback in full Italian style revisiting italian history through her music. A brief seminar hosted by Prof. Carlo Ossola, on Franz Liszt and Francesco Petrarca, will be held on the day of the concert, from 2.30pm at Teatro Foce in Lugano. On this occasion the pianist will hold a meeting open to the public and introduce her evening performance which will take place in the theater at 8.30pm.

Fritz Kutter Award 2011 conferred on Alessandra Gorla

The Fritz Kutter Award is a prestigious prize instituted by the Kutter Foundation of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich for the best PhD thesis characterized by industrial applications. This year the prize has been conferred on Dr. Alessandra Gorla for her thesis on Automatic Workarounds: Exploiting the Intrinsic Redundancy of Software Systems. Alessandra Gorla conducted her research at the Faculty of Informatics, under the supervision of Professors Mauro Pezzé and Antonio Carzaniga.

The Job Market in Ticino: Changes and Opportunities

Organized by USI Alumni Service in cooperation with HR Ticino and USI Alumni Association, the round table, will be held on Wednesday 30 November at 6pm in Room A11 of Lugano Campus. The speaker with Giancarlo Dillena (Editor of the Corriere del Ticino) in the role of facilitator, will tackle issues such as the current economic trend and how it affects the job market and salaries, the impact of immigration and the importance of life-long learning.

The Road as Public Space

A lecture on the subject "The Road as Public Space" will be held on Friday 2 December, from 2pm to 6pm in the classroom C.0.62 (Canavée Building, Mendrisio Campus). The meeting, featuring Michele Arnaboldi, Francesco Allievi, Federica Corso Talento and Enrico Sassi, is part of the series of six yearly public lectures promoted by the research project PNR65 of the Swiss National Science Foundation conducted by Professor and Architect Michele Arnaboldi. A series that tackles issues such as quality of the public space and culture of the territory.

Dreamwork China, Documentary Premiere

The Institute of Media and Journalism invites all students and staff to the premiere of the documentary "Dreamwork China" organized by the course in documentary film and the China Media Observatory. The event will take place at 2pm on Friday 2 December in Room A13 of the Lugano Campus. Prior to the screening USI's Professor Cristina Lasagni and the documentary directors and writers Tommaso Facchin and Ivan Franceschini will give a brief introduction to the work.
