Provengono da 14 diverse nazioni i 39 nuovi diplomati in Scienze informatiche

La cerimonia di giovedì scorso - durante la quale sono stati consegnati 12 diplomi di bachelor, 14 di master, 2 di executive master e 11 di dottorato - ha visto la partecipazione del Decano della Facoltà di scienze informatiche prof. Mauro Pezzè e del CEO di Orange (Svizzera) Thomas Sieber, che ha tenuto la prolusione. Un momento particolarmente toccante è stata la consegna del dottorato di ricerca postumo ad Adina Mosincat, ricercatrice dell'USI rimasta vittima lo scorso marzo di un incidente di montagna.

La Commissione europea investe 30 milioni di euro per promuovere la ricerca sui vaccini: l'IRB è parte del programma

Il 1 ° ottobre ha avuto inizio il programma di collaborazione di ricerca Advanced Immunization Technologies (ADITEC), che porterà allo sviluppo della prossima generazione di vaccini umani con nuove e più potenti tecnologie di immunizzazione. Ben tre gruppi dell'IRB sono tra i 42 partner di ricerca coinvolti nel progetto: quello del prof. Lanzavecchia, della Dr.ssa Sallusto e della Dr.ssa Uguccioni.

Premio 2011 per la miglior idea imprenditoriale del Canton Ticino a Bmob

Il sistema ideato da Julien Buros, Roberto Materni, Michal Piorkowski e Filippo Riva è in grado di comunicare in tempo reale la disponibilità di parcheggi e di fare una previsione sulla loro occupazione tramite l’analisi avanzata dei dati raccolti da una rete di sensori wireless . Questa soluzione altamente innovativa e tecnologica è stata sviluppata in seno al Centro Promozione Start-up, con la collaborazione dell’Istituto ALaRI dell’USI e con la SUPSI. Oltre a ridurre lo stress, il traffico inutile in città e l’inquinamento Bmob permette agli automobilisti di risparmiare tempo e denaro e alle autorità municipali di prendere le migliori decisioni in fatto di pianificazione urbana e politica dei trasporti.

Il diritto d'autore nell'insegnamento

Il progetto DICE (Digital Copyright for eLearning) propone due seminari online sul tema del diritto d’autore nell’insegnamento. I seminari, in lingua inglese, saranno tenuti dal prof. Bertil Cottier. Nel primo appuntamento (martedì 4 ottobre, ore 14.00) verrà presentata una semplice metodologia per affrontare casi legati a questa tematica, mentre nel secondo seminario (mercoledì 2 novembre, ore 14.00) i partecipanti avranno la possibilità di discutere con il prof. Cottier problematiche specifiche legate al diritto d’autore nella formazione.

39 new Informatics graduates from 14 different countries

At last Thursday's ceremony, during which 12 Bachelor's degrees, 14 Master's degrees, 2 Executive Master's degrees and 11 PhDs were conferred, speeches were given by Prof. Mauro Pezzè, USI Dean of Informatics, and Thomas Sieber, CEO of Orange (Switzerland), who delivered the keynote address. One particularly touching moment during the ceremony was the awarding of a posthumous doctoral degree to Adina Mosincat, a former researcher at USI who was the victim of an accident in the mountains this past March.

EU invests €30 million to boost vaccine research, the IRB is one of the 42 grantees

On October 1st, the Advanced Immunization Technologies (ADITEC) collaborative research programme began, which will bring with it the development of the next generation of human vaccines with new and more powerful immunisation technologies. Three groups from IRB - those of Prof. Lanzavecchia,  Dr. Sallusto and Dr. Uguccioni - are amongst the 42 research partners involved in the project.

The 2011 award for the best entrepreneurial idea in the Canton Ticino goes to Bmob

The system created by Julien Buros, Roberto Materni, Michal Piorkowski and Filippo Riva is able to communicate (real-time) the availability of parking spaces and estimate their occupancy through advanced analysis of data collected from a network of wireless sensors. This highly innovative and technological solution was developed within CP Start-up with the collaboration of the ALaRI Institute at USI and with SUPSI. In addition to reducing stress, as well as unnecessary city traffic and pollution, Bmob helps drivers save time and money and allows city authorities to make the optimal decisions in urban planning and transportation policy.

Copyrights in teaching

The DICE (Digital Copyright for eLearning) project offers two seminars on the topic of copyright in teaching. The seminars will be held by Prof. Bertil Cottier in English. The first seminar (Tuesday, October 4, at 2pm) will see the presentation of a simple methodology for dealing with cases on this theme, while in the second seminar (Wednesday, November 2, 2pm) participants will be able to discuss specific issues linked to copyright in education with Prof. Cottier.
