Inaugural Lectures
This series is being launched as an opportunity for newly-appointed professors to introduce themselves and illustrate their specific field of research to the academic world and the community. Inaugurals contribute to their smooth integration in the academic
community, as well as generating stronger human and scientific relations between the four USI Faculties. First date: Thursday, October 7th, 5:30pm, in the Auditorium (Lugano). The first of such lectures will be held by Patrick Gagliardini (pictured left) .

A NOBEL LAUREATE AT USI
Wole Soyinka, the 1986 Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature and the first African to receive this
award, will give a special public lecture in the USI Auditorium tomorrow, Tuesday, September 28th, at 8pm. In addition, Dr Soyinka will teach a Master Class on Wednesday, September 29,10-11:30am, in the "Sala Spazio de la Paix" at the Hotel de la Paix in Lugano. Registration and more information

ANNIVERSARY
A ceremony to commemorate the
tenth anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Buffi, whose name will be forever linked to our University
The creation of USI was one of Buffi's most ambitious and successful projects. The late Councillor of State was remembered last week by his Party (PLR). USI's President, Piero Martinoli, also paid tribute to Giuseppe Buffi and to what he accomplished for USI. Read the speech

Prizes awarded to the most deserving collaborators of L’universo, the independently-run student newspaper
The “Award for Excellent Writing” ceremony, sponsored by Credit Suisse in collaboration with the student association of "L'universo", was held on Wednesday. The most deserving collaborators were presented with their awards by a jury comprised of communication experts and representatives from the academic world. More information and list of winners
Lugano Campus news: the Fun station
It's a digital kiosk with a touch screen interface featuring an interactive map of the Lugano Campus: there users can download digital contents right onto their mobile phones, USB sticks, or digital music players. The digital platform was created by Armando Perico Neto, a student of the Faculty of Informatics. It was developed as part of a second-semester project of the Faculty of Informatics, and is now available for use in the main building near the ATM ("bancomat").
Vaccines: Benefits and Risks
This is the title of an exhibition set up by Università della Svizzera italiana in collaboration with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Bellinzona (recently affiliated to USI) and Jardin des sciences, University of Strasbourg (France). Unveiled this week in Lugano, in parallel with the International Symposium DC2010: Forum on Vaccine Science, the exhibition is expected to bring young people closer to the science of vaccines. It is open to High schools and technical college students, but advance booking is necessary.
