Sabato si terrà il 15° Dies academicus dell'USI

Il Dies academicus è il più importante momento di incontro e di informazione sullo sviluppo dell'USI nel contesto cantonale, nazionale ed internazionale. Alle 10.00 in aula magna (campus di Lugano), la cerimonia si aprirà con il saluto del Presidente del Consiglio Nazionale Jean-René Germanier. Seguiranno l'allocuzione del neoeletto Consigliere di Stato Manuele Bertoli, Direttore del DECS, e la prolusione della prof.ssa Daniela Mondini, docente di storia dell'arte all'Accademia di architettura. La relazione del Presidente dell'USI Piero Martinoli illustrerà in seguito gli scenari di sviluppo più promettenti e significativi per la nostra Università. Infine, oltre alle tradizionali onorificenze (i dottorati honoris causa e i riconoscimenti al merito didattico, CS Award for Best Teaching), al dottor Amilcare Berra sarà conferito il titolo di membro onorario dell'USI.

Il potere dell'astrazione: conferenza di Barbara Liskov, tra i pionieri dei linguaggi di programmazione e dell'ingegneria del software

Barbara Liskov è stata la prima donna ad ottenere un dottorato in informatica negli Stati Uniti - a Stanford nel 1968 - ed è attualmente professoressa presso il prestigioso Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) di Boston. Venerdì 13 maggio alle ore 16.00 (aula A22, campus di Lugano) Liskov discuterà i meccanismi di astrazione, al centro di molte attività informatiche, la loro evoluzione e i possibili sviluppi di ricerca scientifica nel settore.

Disney e l’informatica: le opportunità del Geometric e Visual Computing

Quanto conta l'informatica nel mondo Disney? Quanto incide il mondo del software all'interno dei processi creativi? Che opportunità formative e professionali si aprono in questo settore? Venerdì 13 maggio, dalle 18.00 alle 19.30 (auditorio, campus di Lugano) il Prof. Dr. Markus Gross, responsabile del Computer Graphics Laboratory (ETHZ) e direttore del Disney Research di Zurigo, illustrerà diversi esempi di come l'informatica giochi un ruolo centrale nel processo creativo di molti prodotti della Disney. Al termine il prof. Michael Bronstein, della Facoltà di scienze informatiche dell'USI, illustrerà i contenuti e le opportunità del nuovo Master in Geometric and Visual Computing.

Imprenditori di sé stessi - Efficienza e produttività individuale

In un mondo iper tecnologico ed iper competitivo, come emergere professionalmente puntando sui propri punti di forza? È questo il tema del prossimo appuntamento del ciclo "Refresh your skills", organizzato dall'USI Alumni Association per i laureati della nostra università. Il workshop si terrà questo sabato dalle ore 14.00. Il giorno successivo, domenica 15 maggio, sarà possibile uscire in barca con gli skipper alumni USI, sulle barche Violino 18 del Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano.

The 15th annual Dies academicus will be held on Saturday

Dies academicus is the most important occasion for convening and for informing the cantonal, national and international community about USI's development. The ceremony opens at 10am in Aula Magna of the Lugano Campus, with an address from the National Council of Switzerland President, Jean-René Germanier. The keynote will be given by newly elected State Councillor Manuele Bertoli, Director of DECS, followed by a speech from Prof. Daniela Mondini, art history lecturer at the Academy of Architecture. The report delivered by USI President Piero Martinoli will further explain the most promising and significant development scenarios for our University. And finally, the traditional honours will be conferred (the PhD honoris causa and the CS Award for Best Teaching); Dr. Amilcare Berra will be conferred the title of honorary member of USI.

The Power of Abstraction: a talk by Barbara Liskov, a pioneer of software programming languages and software engineering

Barbara Liskov is the first woman to have received a PhD in computer science in the US - at Stanford in 1968 - and is currently a professor at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. Friday, May 13 at 4pm (Room A22, Lugano Campus), Liskov will discuss abstraction mechanisms, - at the centre of many informatics activities - their evolution and possible scientific research developments in the sector.

Disney and Informatics: the opportunities of Geometric and Visual Computing

Just how important is the field of informatics in the world of Disney? How much does the world of software shape the creative processes? Which educational and professional opportunities are opening in this sector? Friday, May 13, from 6pm - 7pm (Auditorium, Lugano Campus) Prof. Dr. Markus Gross, head of the Computer Graphics Laboratory (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich) and Director of Disney Research, Zürich, will illustrate various examples of how informatics plays a central role in the creative process of many Disney products. At the close of the lecture, Prof. Michael Bronstein of the USI Faculty of Informatics will illustrate the contents and opportunities of the new Master in Geometric and Visual Computing.

Be your own entrepreneur (Imprenditori di sé stessi) - Individual efficiency and productivity

In a hyper-technological and hyper-competitive world, how can one professionally emerge, emphasising his or her strong points? This is the theme of the next event in the "Refresh your skills" series organised by the USI Alumni Association for graduates of our university. The workshop will be held Saturday, May 14 starting at 2pm. The following day there will be a sailing excursion on Lake Lugano with USI alumni skippers on the Violino 18 boats at Circolo Velico.
