| RECOGNITION | | USI President Piero Martinoli named member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) The recognition was conferred on the USI President last week in Zurich "for his significant contributions in teaching and research of condensed matter physics and for his commitment to scientific research in Switzerland, in particular that of Computational Sciences at Università della Svizzera italiana". There are around 240 individual members of SATW, each with a lifelong appointment; among them are leading figures from teaching, research, economics and politics in

| | RECIPROCITY AGREEMENT | | USI signs a convention with the University of Pavia in the context of Italian literature studies
The Master of Arts in "Italian Literature and Civilisation" and the University of Pavia Master of Science in "Modern Philology. The sciences of literature, theatre and cinema" have become equivalent. The agreement allows graduates of the USI Master full access to job calls in the Italian public sector, particularly those which regard teaching. More information.
| | EUROPEAN JOURNALISM OBSERVATORY | | Less analysis and more passion: does editorial journalism conquer? This is the name of the public evening organised by EJO set for Wednesday, April 13th, 2011 at 6.30pm in the Lugano Campus auditorium. The speakers include Gad Lerner, journalist and conductor of L'Infedele, Marcello Veneziani, journalist and writer, and Giancarlo Dillena, Director of Il Corriere del Ticino.

| | ROUND TABLE | | What does the future hold for the Middle East and North Africa and which humanitarian challenges exist there? Tomorrow, April 12th, at 6.00pm in Room A11 of the Lugano Campus, the round table organised by the Master of Advanced Studies in Humanitarian Logistics and Management will take place. The discussion will focus on humanitarian challenges resulting from the crises facing the Middle East and North Africa. Various participants from the Master – all professionals with years of work experience at important humanitarian organisations active in the field – will discuss different aspects of the current state of emergency, which
now
involves millions of displaced peoples and hundreds of thousands of refugees. The panel discussion will be in English. More information.
| | INAUGURATION | | The Bellinzona
Bath exhibit on display at Castelgrande The inauguration of the exhibit dedicated to the Bellinzona Bath by Aurelio Galfetti, Flora Ruchat-Roncati and Ivo Trümpy will be held in Bellinzona on Wednesday, April 13 at 6pm. After being presented in the Galleria dell'Accademia in autumn 2009, the exhibit now lands at Castelgrande in Bellinzona, just a short distance from the site of the examined work. The exhibit is curated by Nicola Navone and Bruno Reichlin and promoted and organised by the Academy of Architecture and the Archivio del Moderno of Mendrisio in cooperation with the Tourism Office of Bellinzona and surrounding areas with the support of the City of Bellinzona. It aims to trace the genesis of the work while demonstrating the exemplary character and its significance as part of Swiss and European contemporary
architecture.
