Tony Fretton sbarca a Mendrisio

In un'annata dedicata a Londra - territorio di indagine per i diplomandi dell'Accademia di architettura che la stanno scandagliando in lungo e in largo - anche gli ospiti chiamati a raccontarsi nell'ambito degli eventi pubblici non potevano che essere British. Dopo la fotografa di architettura e paesaggio Hélène Binet sbarca a Mendrisio Tony Fretton, uno dei protagonisti della scena architettonica internazionale. Ai tanti riconoscimenti attribuitigli nel corso di una proficua carriera si è aggiunto recentemente il "Detail Prize 2011" (Special Award for Glass) per la nuova Ambasciata britannica a Varsavia, completata nel 2009. Appuntamento a Mendrisio per giovedì 7 aprile con una lezione (in inglese) dal titolo Buildings and their Territories.

Gli studenti dell'USI si mobilitano per aiutare il Giappone: iniziative di raccolta fondi a Mendrisio e a Lugano

Cinque studenti giapponesi dell'Accademia di architettura hanno seguito da Mendrisio le recenti vicende del loro paese. Prenderanno la parola al termine della conferenza di Tony Fretton, giovedì 7 aprile, per presentare la situazione attuale in Giappone e per spiegare come aiutare il Paese del Sol Levante con una donazione che potrà essere effettuata la sera stessa o a partire dall'8 aprile presso la ricezione dell'Accademia (Villa Argentina). Le offerte potranno essere devolute a un ente a scelta fra la Croce Rossa, l'UNICEF o l'organizzazione Voluntary Architects' Network.

A Lugano l'associazione United Students ha lanciato per mercoledì 6 aprile una raccolta fondi intitolata "Cakes 4 Japan" il cui ricavato sarà interamente devoluto alla Catena della Solidarietà Svizzera. Potrete acquistare i dolci nei pressi del palazzo rosso nella pausa delle 10.15 o all'entrata della mensa durante l'orario di pranzo.

Fondazione AGIRE: il dr. Lorenzo Leoni nominato direttore

Mimmo Cuticchio, il maggiore puparo e cuntastorie del nostro tempo, mette in scena "Il cunto della morte di Orlando"

Il ritmo sincopato del cunto, di origine misteriosa e antichissima, scandisce l'epopea per voce sola che Mimmo Cuticchio porta da anni nelle piazze dei paesini siciliani e nei teatri del mondo. Lo spettacolo - l'ultimo appuntamento a Lugano del ciclo "Per voce sola" - avrà luogo venerdì sera, alle 20.30, al Teatro il foce di Lugano. Prima dello spettacolo la RSI, l'Istituto di Studi italiani e il Dicastero Giovani ed Eventi della Città di Lugano offrono l'interessante opportunità di dialogare con Mimmo Cuticchio. Venerdì 8 aprile, alle ore 14.00, nello Studio 2 della RSI a Besso si terrà infatti un incontro dal titolo "Come si racconta una storia", che la radio trasmetterà qualche giorno dopo, condotto da Sabrina Faller e dal prof. Corrado Bologna.

Immersione nell'informatica per gli studenti del Liceo Lugano 2

La Facoltà di scienze informatiche ospiterà 12 studenti del Liceo Lugano 2, dal 4 all'8 di aprile, nell'ambito di una Settimana di approfondimento sull'informatica organizzata dallo stesso liceo. L'obiettivo dell'iniziativa è quello di offrire agli studenti la possibilità di tuffarsi nelle molteplici applicazioni informatiche che caratterizzano la vita di tutti i giorni, grazie alla competenza dei dottorandi e dei ricercatori della Facoltà. Svilupperanno lavori di ricerca sui temi più caldi della disciplina, dal nuovo web ai telefonini di terza generazione e agli eBooks.

Tony Fretton arrives in Mendrisio

In a year dedicated to London - the investigation area for Academy of Architecture students in their final year of graduate studies - it is fitting that the guest speakers in the public events are British. Following the architectural and landscape photography of Hélène Binet, Tony Fretton now arrives in Mendrisio. Fretton is a key figure on the international architecture scene. Of the many awards he has received during the course of his successful career, he recently was conferred the "Detail Prize 2011" (Special Award for Glass) for the new British Embassy in Varsavia, completed in 2009. The lecture on Thursday, April 7 in Mendrisio, is entitled, "Buildings and their Territories".

USI students take action to help Japan - fundraising initiatives in Mendrisio and Lugano

Five Japanese students at the Academy of Architecture are working for their motherland. They will make a small presentation after the Tony Fretton lecture on 7 April to let you know about the actual situation in the afflicted area and to introduce how to provide assistance from Switzerland. After the presentation, a donation box will be placed at the lobby on the ground floor in Palazzo Canavée. The donation box will then move to the reception desk in Villa Argentina from 8 April. The donations can be routed to your choice of charities: the Red Cross, UNICEF, or the Voluntary Architects' Network organization.

On the Lugano Campus, the United Students association has organised a fundraising bake sale for Wednesday, April 6, called "Cakes 4 Japan - a sweets bank". The proceeds will be donanted to the Catena della Solidarietà of Switzerland. Tables will be outside of the Red Building during the morning break and outside the cafeteria at lunchtime.

The Agency for Regional Innovation of the Canton Ticino (AGIRE) is the cantonal platform for knowledge and technology transfer. Mimmo Cuticchio, the greatest puppeteer and Sicilian storyteller of our time, stages "Il cunto della morte di Orlando" (The Tale of the Death of Orlando)

The syncopated rhythm of Sicilian storytelling, of ancient and mysterious origins, punctuates the solo performances that Mimmo Cuticchio has carried out for years in the squares of Sicilian villages and in theatres worldwide. This performance will be the last taking place in Lugano of the "For One Voice" series; it will be held Friday evening, at 8.30pm, at Il Foce Theatre in Lugano.
Prior to the show, you are also invited to participate in a conversation with the artist, entitled "How to Storytell". This special opportunity is offered by RSI, together with the USI Institute of Italian Studies and the Lugano Department for Youth and Events, and will also be held on Friday the 8th, at 2pm (Studio 2 of RSI, Besso). The dialogue between Mimmo Cuticchio, moderated by Sabrina Faller and Prof. Corrado Bologna, will be broadcast by radio within several days of the live event.

Informatics immersion for Liceo Lugano 2 students

The Faculty of Informatics will host 12 students from the Liceo Lugano 2 from April 4 to 8 as part of a study week on information technology organised by the high school. The objective of the initiative is to to provide students the opportunity to dive into the many informatics applications that characterise everyday life, thanks to the knowledge of PhD's and researchers at the faculty. They will explore research on the hottest topics in the discipline, namely on new mobile web and the third generation of eBooks.
