| | CHOOSING AN ACADEMIC PATH
| | More than 1,000 secondary school students from Ticino at USI for the first orientation workshop on university studies in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland Last week's OrientaTI was a great success: all of the secondary schools in the Canton Ticino joined in the initiative. The representatives of the other Swiss universities responded very positively, too, with a lively programme of mini-lectures and presentations on their own institutions. The event was organised by the USI Study Advisory Service, the Cantonal Office for
Scholastic and Professional Orientation and the Office of Secondary School Instruction. Images and press kit.
| | PUBLIC PRESENTATION
| | The rediscovery of a universal scholar: Johann Jakob Scheuchzer The doctor and naturalist Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (1672-1733) of Zurich is a figure who has marked the cultural history of the old Confederation between the Baroque Epoch and the First Enlightenment. For the most part unknown to the greater public, this notable individual is now revealed through a volume that will be presented February 25th at Canvetto Luganese (Lugano) by Luigi Lorenzetti, coordinator of the Laboratorio di Storia delle Alpi, by the curator of the work, Simona Boscani Leoni, and by Thomas Maissen, professor at the University of Heidelberg. | - Sing each week with USI Choir. Aside from its musical purpose, the new association aims to build and maintain
contacts within the
community during free time. The first meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, February 22nd at 7.30pm in room 354. Aperitivo reception to follow.
- On Thursday, February 24th at 12.15pm (room A11, Lugano Campus) United Students debuts. This student association seeks to involve all students from academic institutions in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland and become a reference point for Ticinese who study outside of the Canton. Thanks to cultural, educational and recreational events, the association aims to improve the daily life of students and support their integration into university life.
- On February 24, 25 and 26, visit the Chiasso "Jazz
around the Rock" Jazz Culture and Music Festival, where several students from the Academy handled the scenography and furniture design, including a huge lamp 6 meters in diameter - the focal point of the festival - around and which all of the festivities will unravel. Additionally, at the stroke of mid-night, the DJ-set of the opening ceremony will be entrusted to OOA_OhOrganizeArchitecture, the student association of the Academy of Architecture.
- Ucalenda - an online calendar created by students for students to help manage free time during the university experience - is also launching in Ticino. This sort of social network allows students to share event photos and socialize. And since the university atmosphere is so special, Ucalenda use is reserved just for students and is totally free. This initiative started in Lausanne, then expanded to all of Switzerland and various European countries. In the coming days, UCalenda members will promote the initiative on the Lugano Campus and soon
will also present on the Mendrisio Campus.
