Con l'inizio del nuovo semestre l'USI dà il benvenuto a sette nuovi collaboratori che hanno iniziato l'attività nella nostra università: Elena Bernasconi (Executive Officer, Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management), Teresa Cafaro (assistente operativa, Institute of Communication and Health), Ladina Caprez (assistente marketing del Servizio orientamento e promozione), Marco Della Torre (segretario di direzione, Accademia di architettura), Luca Martinetti (allrounder tecnico del Servizio logistica), Gill Parker (Program Manager & Deputy of the Managing Director, MScom) e Laura Tschanz (collaboratrice del Servizio ricerca).

Il 24 febbraio si inaugura all’Accademia la mostra dedicata a due rappresentanti dell’architettura contemporanea mitteleuropea, Jabornegg & Pálffy, che operano a Vienna dal 1988. Noti anche grazie alla partecipazione alla Biennale di Venezia (2008 e 2010), si presentano a Mendrisio con un’esposizione che è concepita alla maniera di un’installazione e che guida il visitatore in un dialogo fra passato e presente.

Oltre 1000 liceali ticinesi all'USI per il primo salone di orientamento agli studi universitari nella Svizzera italiana

Grande successo la scorsa settimana per OrientaTI: tutti i licei del Canton Ticino hanno aderito all'iniziativa. Molto positiva anche la risposta da parte degli esponenti delle altre università svizzere, che hanno animato le due giornate con mini-conferenze e presentazioni relative al proprio ateneo. La manifestazione è stata organizzata dal Servizio orientamento dell'USI, dall'Ufficio cantonale per l'Orientamento Scolastico e Professionale e dall'Ufficio dell'insegnamento medio superiore.

La riscoperta di un erudito universale: Johann Jakob Scheuchzer

Il medico e naturalista zurighese Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (1672-1733) è un personaggio che ha marcato la storia culturale dell’antica Confederazione tra epoca barocca e primo Illuminismo. La sua figura, per lo più sconosciuta al grande pubblico, viene ora rivelata attraverso un volume che sarà presentato il 25 febbraio al Canvetto Luganese (Lugano) da Luigi Lorenzetti, coordinatore del Laboratorio di Storia delle Alpi, dalla curatrice dell'opera, Simona Boscani Leoni, e da Thomas Maissen, professore all’Università di Heidelberg.

New arrivals in the academic community

With the beginning of the new semester, USI extends a warm welcome to seven new collaborators who have begun their activities at our university: Elena Bernasconi (Executive Officer, Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management), Teresa Cafaro (Operations Assistant, Institute of Communication and Health), Ladina Caprez (Marketing Assistant of the Study Advisory and Promotion Service), Marco Della Torre (Executive Secretary, Academy of Achitecture), Luca Martinetti (Technical Generalist, Logistics Service), Gill Parker (Program Manager & Deputy of the Managing Director, MScom) and Laura Tschanz (Collaborator, Research Service).

On February 24, the Academy opens an exhibition dedicated to two representatives of contemporary Central-European architecture, Jabornegg & Pálffy, who have been working in Vienna since 1988. Also known for their participation at the Venice Biennale (2008 and 2010), they present their Mendrisio exhibition, which is conceived in the manner of an installation that guides visitors in a dialogue between past and present.

More than 1,000 secondary school students from Ticino at USI for the first orientation workshop on university studies in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland

Last week's OrientaTI was a great success: all of the secondary schools in the Canton Ticino joined in the initiative. The representatives of the other Swiss universities responded very positively, too, with a lively programme of mini-lectures and presentations on their own institutions. The event was organised by the USI Study Advisory Service, the Cantonal Office for Scholastic and Professional Orientation and the Office of Secondary School Instruction.

The rediscovery of a universal scholar: Johann Jakob Scheuchzer

The doctor and naturalist Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (1672-1733) of Zurich is a figure who has marked the cultural history of the old Confederation between the Baroque Epoch and the First Enlightenment. For the most part unknown to the greater public, this notable individual is now revealed through a volume that will be presented February 25th at Canvetto Luganese (Lugano) by Luigi Lorenzetti, coordinator of the Laboratorio di Storia delle Alpi, by the curator of the work, Simona Boscani Leoni, and by Thomas Maissen, professor at the University of Heidelberg.
