La nostra università cresce ancora e supera quota 2850 studenti: sempre molto alta l'internazionalità e restano buoni i dati sull’inserimento professionale dei laureati
Nel semestre autunnale 2010 risultano iscritti all'USI complessivamente 2852 studenti, 145 in più dello scorso anno: la nostra comunità studentesca è quindi cresciuta del 5,4%. Il maggiore incremento tocca la categoria dei dottorandi, che sono aumentati di quasi il 10% come logica conseguenza della continua espansione dei mandati di ricerca scientifica competitiva ottenuti dall'USI. Resta molto alta l'internazionalità con il 28% degli studenti proveniente dal Ticino, il 9% da altri cantoni svizzeri, il 38% dall'Italia e il 25% da altre nazioni. Per ciò che concerne l’occupazione dei nostri laureati, l'indagine 2010 delinea un quadro stabile e positivo: il 94% risulta occupato ad un anno dal diploma (di questi lavora il 75% e il 16% studia), mentre a 5 anni dalla laurea la percentuale sale al 98% (di questi il 93% lavora e il 5% ha fatto altre scelte).

CERIMONIA DI CONSEGNA DEI DIPLOMI

111 nuovi diplomati in Scienze della comunicazione: provengono da 18 nazioni differenti
Durante la cerimonia di lunedì scorso sono stati conferiti 46 diplomi di Bachelor, 60 di Master biennale e 5 dottorati. Ai migliori diplomati sono stati consegnati anche alcuni importanti riconoscimenti. Il Premio ABB/ALSTOM alla migliore laurea di Bachelor è stato assegnato a Silvia Canova, quello alla migliore laurea di Master a Marcello Coppa. Il Premio Alma Bacciarini per la miglior laurea di Master in Lingua, letteratura e civiltà italiana è stato attribuito a Vega Tescari e Francesca Galli. Infine il Premio Angelika Meyer Terlizzi per la migliore tesi di Master nel campo delle relazioni pubbliche e della comunicazione aziendale è stato attribuito ex aequo a Gerardo Bramati e a Marcello Coppa.

MOSTRA DEI PROGETTI DI DIPLOMA DELL'ACCADEMIA EDIZIONE 2010
110 progetti per Varese

Giovedì 13 gennaio 2011 alle ore 18.00, nello spazio museale di Villa Baragiola a Varese, si inaugura la mostra dei progetti di diploma – edizione 2010 promossa dall’Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio in collaborazione con la città di Varese. Modelli grandi e piccoli, disegni, schizzi e pannelli daranno vita a una Varese immaginata e affascinante, non priva però di spunti arguti e realistici. Il risultato non è una semplice sommatoria di tanti lavori individuali, ma un patrimonio di proposte, chiavi di lettura, visioni architettoniche e urbane: in altre parole una città diversa, una città trasformata da 110 progetti. Per chi crede nel fatto architettonico, la città disegnata dai giovani neo-architetti con audacia, ottimismo e freschezza rappresenta un’occasione straordinaria. La mostra resterà aperta sino al 20 febbraio 2011.

UNO SGUARDO SUI PROGETTI FUTURI

Stato dell'arte del progetto su un eventuale nuovo Master in medicina all'USI

Quello di offrire nuova formazione clinica (Master in medicina, 3 anni) nella nostra università è un progetto molto rilevante e altrettanto complesso. Come saprete dalla stampa, il progetto risponde ad un'esigenza reale: la Svizzera soffre di una grave penuria di medici, un fenomeno che assumerà proporzioni sempre più drammatiche nel prossimo decennio. Il gruppo di studio incaricato dal Consiglio di Stato di esaminare la fattibilità di questo progetto ha recentemente terminato i suoi lavori. Conclusioni e raccomandazioni saranno inoltrate a breve al Consiglio di Stato, il quale - in stretta collaborazione con l'USI - dovrà valutare se costituire un gruppo di lavoro incaricato di approfondire i passi necessari per preparare un progetto dettagliato da sottoporre in ultima analisi al Gran Consiglio. Non mancheremo di aggiornarvi su questo importante progetto il prossimo anno.

Francesca Rigotti presenta la sua "filosofia della vita quotidiana" in Giappone

Il prossimo mese di gennaio il Center of Philosophy dell'Università di Tokyo ospiterà Francesca Rigotti, docente della Facoltà di scienze della comunicazione dell'USI. Filosofa e saggista, Francesca Rigotti terrà un seminario su "La filosofia della vita quotidiana" dedotta dai suoi libri e dalle sue pubblicazioni. Sarà inoltre protagonista di una rappresentazione di teatro filosofico, da lei scritta e interpretata, dal titolo "L'anima delle cose". Entrambi i contributi sono in via di traduzione e saranno presentati al pubblico in lingua giapponese.

Our university is still growing and surpasses quota 2850 students, with a consistently high level of internationality and strong figures on occupational placement of graduates
In the fall 2010 semester, a total of 2,852 students enrolled at USI - 145 more than last year. That's a growth rate of 5.4% for our student community. The greatest incremental growth was seen in the PhD candidate category, which has increased by 10% - a direct reflection of the continued expansion of USI in obtaining competitive scientific research grants. Internationality remains high, with 28% of students originating from Ticino, 9% from other Swiss Cantons, 38% from Italy and the remaining 25% from other countries. Regarding occupation of our graduates, the 2010 survey outlines a stable and positive picture: 94% are occupied at one year after receiving their diplomas (of which 75% work professionally and 16% are studying), while at 5 years after graduation, the percentage climbs to 98% (of which 93% work and 5% made other choices).

GRADUATION CEREMONY

111 new graduates in Communication Sciences, hailing from 18 different countries
During last Monday’s ceremony, the following degrees were awarded: 46 Bachelors, 60 two-year Masters and 5 PhD's. The top graduates were awarded several important prizes. The ABB/ALSTOM Prize for the top graduate from the Bachelor programme was presented to Silvia Canova, while for the top Master, Marcello Coppa was recognized. The Alma Bacciarini Prize for the top graduate of the Master in Italian Literature and Civilisation was awarded to Vega Tescari and Francesca Galli. And finally, the Angelika Meyer Terlizzi prize for the best Master thesis in the field of public relations and corporate communication was granted ex aequo to Gerardo Bramati and Marcello Coppa.

EXHIBITION OF PROJECTS FROM ACADEMY OF ARCHITECTURE GRADUATES, 2010 EDITION
110 projects for Varese

Thursday, January 13th, 2011, at 6pm, the 2010 edition of the exhibition of graduate projects promoted by the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio in collaboration with the City of Varese will open at the museum of Villa Baragiola in Varese. Models great and small, drawings, sketches and panels animate an imaginitive, fascinating Varese without neglecting clever and realistic cues. The result is not simply a sum of all the works involved, but rather a legacy of proposals, interpretations, architectural and urban visions. In other words, the project reveals a diverse city - a city transformed by 110 projects. For those who believe in architectural discourse, the city - designed by new, young architects with a boldness, optimism and freshness - represents an extraordinary occasion. The exhibition runs through February 20th, 2011.

A GLIMPSE INTO FUTURE PROJECTS

State of the art regarding the project on a possible USI Master in Medicine

To offer a new clinical training programme (3-year Master in Medicine) at our university is both a very significant and equally complex initiative. As you may know from the media, the project was born in response to an acute need: Switzerland suffers from a severe shortage of doctors, a phenomenon that will reach increasingly dramatic proportions over the next decade. The study group appointed by the Consiglio di Stato to assess the feasibility of this project has recently finished its work. Conclusions and recommendations will be submitted shortly to the Consiglio di Stato. In close collaboration with USI, the former will determine whether to establish a working group to investigate the necessary steps toward preparing a detailed plan, of which the final analysis would be submitted to the Gran Consiglio. We will keep you informed and up-to-date on the progress next year.

IN THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN

Francesca Rigotti presents her "Philosophy of Daily Life" in Japan

This coming January, the Center of Philosophy at the University of Tokyo will host  Francesca Rigotti, lecturer at the USI Faculty of Communication Sciences. Philosopher and essayist, Francesca Rigotti will hold a seminar on "The philosophy of Daily Life," drawing from her books and publications. She will also interpret a philosophical representation of theatre which she wrote, entitled, “The Soul of Things.” Both contributions are in the process of being translated and will be presented to the public in the Japanese language.
