KAI HORMANN INAUGURAL LECTURE | | From Coordinates to Cartoons Kai Hormann research interests focus on the mathematical foundations of geometry processing algorithms as well as their application in computer graphics and related fields. As full professor of the Faculty of Informatics, he will hold his inaugural lecture on Thursday, February 26th at 5.30pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus. The encounter open to the public will be held in English as part of the series of inaugural lectures, with the aim of introducing new professors and offering the experience of a true academic lesson to the

The annual encounter, now introducing some interesting news, is the perfect chance for all USI’s students and graduates entering the business world to meet
with over 60 companies. Part of the new
initiatives is the USI Career Speed Dating, a simulation to test professional introductory skills through a series of brief interviews with HR staff. Master? The encounter will be held on Monday, March 2nd at 6pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus and is organised by the Association L’Universo: the independent student newspaper of the Italian speaking area of Switzerland. Several guest alumni and former editors of the newspaper will be joining the discussion as well as Antonio Loprieno (President of the Rector’s Conference of Swissuniversities – former CRUS), Piero Martinoli (USI President), and Giovanni Barone Adesi (director of USI’s Institute of Finance). Giancarlo Dillena, editor in chief of the Corriere del Ticino will act as moderator. >>> | | A COMPETITION AT
SWISS LEVEL | | The Nespresso Academic Sustainability Challenge Swiss Edition won by two USI teams Presented by prof. Peter Seele within the course in Communication Ethics, the challenge is promoted by the multinational corporation with the aim of creating sustainable solutions thanks to the student’s projects, to protect
the future of the quality of Nespresso coffees in relation to living and working conditions in plantations worldwide. The two student teams
from the Master in Corporate Communication will now access the international challenge. >>> | | INSTITUTE OF ITALIAN STUDIES (ISI) | | «Ad Achille si addicono le rose»: dance and performance in Italy ISI’s lecturer
Stefano Tomassini will hold an encounter within the dance platform dedicated by LuganoInScena to contemporary Italian coreography. The event taking place tonight, Monday, February 23rd at 6pm in the Aula Magna will introduce with the aid of videos, the experience of Italian contemporary dance starting from the ‘80s, to a general audience. >>> | | SECURITY SERVICE | | What to do and who to call in case of emergency on Lugano Campus In case of emergency the number 058 666 4730 (from campus phones dial 4730) is active 24/7 on Lugano Campus. From 7am to 5pm the staff of the Logistics Service will answer your calls, whereas from 5pm to 7am the USI’s Security Service will cover the night shift. The people in charge of security are trained to provide first aid interventions (more information on how to act in case of emergency such as fire, accidents, violence on campus or injuries and
sickness). >>> | | STUDENT ASSOCIATION | | USI Voices Activities Resume The members of the University choir USI Voices will meet tonight, Monday, February 23rd at 7.30pm in room 354 to resume their activities, which for this semester will feature songs from musicals, rock and pop tunes.
