| ENROLLED STUDENTS, ORIGIN, AND GRADUATES EMPLOYMENT RATE | | The Academic Year in Numbers 3,017 students are currently enrolled at USI. 25.9% of our students come from Ticino, 6.9% from other Cantons, 45.9% from Italy and 21.3% from other Countries. The students enrolled in the Academy of Architecture are 791, in the
Faculty of Economics 791, in the Faculty of Communication Sciences 916 and 280 in the Faculty of Informatics. According to the 2014 Graduate Survey - published this year with a different data presentation according to the new guidelines of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office - 89.7% of the students found an occupation a year after graduation. The percentage of graduates who are professionally active five years after graduation increases to 96.1%. >>> | | NEW FACULTY OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES | | Established the Constituent Committee: Mario Bianchetti to represent USI During its ordinary session held on December 5th, USI
Council has set the basis for the future Constituent Committee of the Institute of Human Medicine within the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences. The Committee (5-7 members) will consist of university professors of medicine from the partner institutes of the project, from the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS), and from the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (EOC). The Council has appointed unanimously Prof. Dr. M.D. Mario Bianchetti as
representative of USI within the Constituent Committee. >>> | | UNIVERSITY COUNCIL | | Piero Martinoli agreed to extend his mandate as USI President Given the importance of the project for a new Faculty of Biomedical Sciences USI’s Council has asked Piero Martinoli to extend his presidency until the end of the academic year 2015-16. Prof.
Martinoli accepted: in addition to achieving the objectives for the current 2012-2016 faculty planning, the aim is also to complete the implementation of the Master in Human Medicine within the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, as per governmental decree of November 24th. >>> | | INSTITUTE OF ITALIAN STUDIES | | «And by a little sounding in these verses» (Paradiso

the Institute of Italian Studies will present an installation dedicated to Dante’s Paradiso. The work made of 11,000 light bulbs placed on 180 sq.m of wooden canvas will be displayed in the central nave of the ex Macello in Lugano (viale Cassarate). The installation will be inaugurated by a reading of Dante held by the Director of the Institute of Italian Studies Carlo Ossola and by the music written by the students of the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana. >>> | | ACADEMY OF ARCHITECTURE | | Frédéric Bonnet Awarded with the Gran Prix de l'Urbanisme 2014 The architect and urban planner Frédéric
Bonnet, lecturer of Culture of the Territory at USI’s Academy of Architecture will receive today in Paris the prestigious recognition assigned each year to urban planners by the French Ministry of Planning. The jury awarded Frédéric Bonnet for his skills to work on “any type of territory including the most disadvantaged, and at different urban levels" and "to
think of nature as a tool for urban reconstruction, to provide strategic solutions to the evolution of the various urban contests, especially in times of crisis”. >>> | | INFORMATICS TELLS ITS STORY | | Presentation of the Semester’s Projects The encounter will be held on Thursday, December 18th from 2pm in the Auditorium of Lugano
Campus. After an introduction by Dean Michele Lanza, several professors will illustrate what buzzes in the construction sites of their courses, through a presentation of the work carried out by students throughout the semester.
