Approvata la nuova Facoltà di scienze biomediche

La scorsa settimana il Gran Consiglio ticinese ha approvato l'istituzione della nuova facoltà: la relativa modifica di legge è stata approvata con 66 voti favorevoli, 2 astenuti e 1 contrario. Il presidente dell’USI Piero Martinoli, a capo del progetto fin dalla sua ideazione, ha espresso il suo ringraziamento nei confronti dei numerosi partner coinvolti nell’operazione iniziata ormai 5 anni fa. Nel prossimo Consiglio dell’USI sarà istituito il Consiglio costituente della nuova Facoltà, che avrà il compito di stabilire l’agenda e i regolamenti per la selezione dei nuovi professori.

Cerimonia di consegna di 145 diplomi in Scienze della comunicazione

I laureati riceveranno il diploma dal Presidente dell'USI Piero Martinoli e dal Decano della Facoltà di scienze della comunicazione Michael Gibbert. Saranno conferiti 52 diplomi di bachelor, 77 di master biennale e 16 di dottorato. Saranno inoltre assegnati i consueti premi ai migliori diplomati: i premi di ABB/ALSTOM ai migliori diplomi di bachelor, master e dottorato e il Premio Alma Bacciarini per il miglior diploma di Master in Lingua, letteratura e civiltà italiana.

Economia e società civile: tra passato sostenibile e un futuro incerto

Esponente di primo piano del comitato scientifico che ha progettato e posto le fondamenta della nostra Università, il prof. Baranzini è stato Decano della Facoltà di scienze economiche dal 2005 al 2009. Durante la sua carriera accademica tra USI, Oxford, Harvard, Berkeley, MIT e Stanford, si è dedicato in particolare all’insegnamento e alla ricerca nell’ambito della macroeconomia, della distribuzione del reddito e dell’accumulazione del capitale. La sua lezione di commiato si terrà giovedì 11 dicembre alle 17.30 nell'auditorio del campus di Lugano e sarà l'occasione per rendere omaggio al prezioso lavoro che il prof. Baranzini ha svolto in favore dell'USI.

Man and Nature: la lezione dei paesaggi antichi

Continua la serie di incontri pubblici dal titolo Teatro della democrazia dello storico dell’arte, antichista, archeologo e filologo Salvatore Settis, titolare della seconda edizione della Cattedra Borromini dell'Accademia di architettura. La seconda conferenza, intitolata Man and Nature: la lezione dei paesaggi antichi, si terrà giovedì 4 dicembre alle 19.30 nell'Aula magna del campus di Mendrisio (Palazzo Canavée).

Esperti di dermatologia e venereologia da tutta Europa per il 6° incontro annuale dell'EADV

L’incontro di giovedì 4 dicembre - organizzato dal Comitato scientifico dell’Accademia Europea di Dermatologia e Venereologia (EADV) in stretta collaborazione con la Società Ticinese di Dermatologia, il Servizio di Dermatologia dell’Ospedale Regionale e Valli e l’IRB - fornirà aggiornamenti su una serie di temi per dermatologi, allergologi, immunologi, internisti e oncologi. La giornata consisterà in una sessione mattutina di ricerca (Risposta immunitaria e cute), seguita nel pomeriggio da una sessione clinica (Aggiornamento sulle terapie delle malattie dermatologiche).

Borse di studio Harley-Davidson Club Ticino

Il club istituisce per il terzo anno consecutivo due borse di studio annuali di CHF 4'000.- delle quali possono beneficiare gli studenti di nazionalità svizzera residenti in Ticino al conseguimento del titolo di ammissione all'Università e regolarmente iscritti ad un programma di Bachelor (II o III anno) o di Master dell'USI (I o II anno). Le candidature vanno presentate agli sportelli delle segreterie dei campus di Lugano e di Mendrisio entro il 31 gennaio 2015. L'assegnazione sarà decisa da una commissione in base al merito.

Stasera Eliane accompagnerà l'accensione dell'albero di Natale in Piazza Riforma

Come di consueto le migliaia di luci sull'albero di Natale di fronte al Municipio di Lugano saranno accese stasera, il primo di dicembre, alle 18.00. Quest'anno ad accompagnare il suggestivo momento ci sarà la meravigliosa voce della nostra laureata Eliane Müller, che con il suo pianoforte è stata vincitrice nel 2012 del programma televisivo Die grössten Schweizer Talente. Eliane terrà una tappa del suo Christmas Tour a Lugano, al Palazzo dei Congressi, sabato 27 dicembre.

Green light for the new Faculty of Biomedical Sciences

Last week the Parliament of Ticino voted in favour of the foundation of the new Faculty. The amendment to the related Act was approved with 66 votes in favour, 2 abstaining and 1 against. Piero Martinoli, USI's President and leader of the project from its inception, has expressed his deep gratitude towards the many partners involved in the project that was initiated five years ago. The upcoming University Council session will define the objectives of the Faculty Constituent Council, which will be responsible for setting the agenda and regulations for the appointment of professors.

Graduation Ceremony for 145 students in Communication Sciences

Economy and Civil Society: from a sustainable past to an uncertain future

A leading member of the scientific committee that designed and laid the foundations of our University, Prof. Baranzini was Dean of the Faculty of Economics from 2005 to 2009. During his academic career at USI, Oxford, Harvard, Berkeley, MIT and Stanford, Prof. Baranzini devoted his time to teaching and research in the fields of macroeconomics, income distribution and capital accumulation. His farewell lecture will be held on Thursday, December 11th at 5.30pm in the Auditorium on the Lugano Campus and will be an opportunity to pay tribute to the valuable work that prof. Baranzini has done for USI.

Man and Nature: lessons from ancient landscapes

The series of public lectures entitled Theatre of Democracy carries on. The encounters are held by the art historian, classical scholar, archaeologist and philologist Salvatore Settis, appointed for the second edition of the Borromini Chair of the Academy of Architecture. The second lecture, entitled Man and Nature: lessons from ancient landscapes, will be held on Thursday, December 4th at 7.30pm in the Aula Magna on the Mendrisio Campus.

From the Bench to the Clinic - 6th EADV Dermatological Meeting in Ticino

An event to provide updates on topics selected by dermatologists, allergists, immunologists, internists and oncologists will be held on Thursday, December 4th. The meeting is organised by the Scientific Committee of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) in close collaboration with the Società Ticinese di Dermatologia, the Dermatology department from the Bellinzona regional hospital, and the IRB. The day will consist of a research session in the morning (Immune response and skin), followed in the afternoon by a clinically oriented session (Update on the treatment of dermatological diseases).

Study Grants from the Harley-Davidson Club Ticino

For the third consecutive year, two annual study grants of CHF 4000 each are issued by the club to Swiss students living in Ticino who are admitted to USI and enrolled in a Bachelor (2nd or 3rd year) or a Master programme (1st or 2nd year). Applications are to be submitted to the front desks of Lugano and Mendrisio Campus by January 31st, 2015. The grants will be assigned by a committee and are based on merit.

Tonight Eliane will sing to the lighting of the Christmas tree in Piazza Riforma

It is tradition at this time of year to light the thousands of lights of the Christmas tree in front of the City Hall of Lugano. Tonight, at 6 pm, the evocative moment will be graced with the wonderful voice of our graduate Eliane Müller, who with her piano was the winner in 2012 of the television program Die grössten Schweizer Talente. Eliane’s Christmas tour will bring her again to Lugano on December 27th at the Palazzo dei Congressi.
