Una mostra interattiva per festeggiare i 10 anni della Facoltà

Fiori frattali, robot interattivi e dinosauri virtuali. Discorsi tra computer, password criptate e fenomeni quantistici. Sono alcuni dei soggetti della mostra che si terrà sabato 18 ottobre nell’aula magna del campus di Lugano. Un’occasione per scoprire la carica innovativa delle scienze informatiche e conoscere le aree di ricerca sulle quali la Facoltà si è concentrata in questi anni.

Il programma di attività e interventi a margine della mostra

Dalle 10.00 di sabato in aula magna sarà disponibile un Computational Playground per bambini dai 3 anni. Alle 11.00 Alessandra Gorla (dottorata della Facoltà e ricercatrice presso Google in California) terrà la presentazione Informatics Careers: un giorno da googler, mentre alle 14.00 sarà la volta di Massimo Banzi con la conferenza Arduino: creatività e tecnologia. Alle 15.30 il pediatra Andreas Wechsler e la prof. Laura Pozzi discuteranno di Informatica e sviluppo infantile. Infine alle 16.45 avrà luogo The Final Computation e il “computer domino” della Facoltà entrerà in azione.

Primo Alumni in Tech Apero

A chiudere la manifestazione per celebrare i 10 anni della Facoltà di scienze informatiche, alle 17:15 presso l'aula A11 (campus di Lugano), si terrà un aperitivo per i diplomati dell’USI che ora lavorano in aziende del settore tecnologico. L'alumno Cyrus Hall, protagonista di un interessante percorso accademico-professionale che lo ha portato a dirigere un gruppo di sviluppatori presso la Twitch di San Francisco (società recentemente rilevata da Amazon), racconterà la propria esperienza.

Local and global insights into digital initiatives in higher education

Venerdì 24 ottobre alle 13:00 nell'auditorio del campus di Lugano il Segretario di Stato per la formazione, la ricerca e l’innovazione Mauro dell’Ambrogio, il prof. dell'USI Lorenzo Cantoni, il prof. Per Bergamin (Institute for Distance and eLearning Research, FFHS) e Andreas Ledergerber (capo dell’Ufficio per la scienza e la tecnologia presso l’ambasciata svizzera a Washington) rifletteranno sul rapido sviluppo delle tecnologie digitali e sulle possibilità di reinventare attraverso di esse l'istruzione superiore.

Acque, infrastrutture e memoria

In occasione dell’inventariazione dell’archivio dell'ing. Augusto Rima, la Biblioteca dell’Accademia di architettura partecipa, con una mostra di documenti storici, alla 9ª Biennale dell’Immagine. L'appuntamento è per martedì 14 ottobre alle 18.00, quando si terranno l’inaugurazione della mostra fotografica Acque, infrastrutture e memoria e un intervento del prof. Luigi Lorenzetti, coordinatore del Laboratorio di Storia delle Alpi.

Le vaccinazioni dei bambini: una scelta consapevole

Il tema della vaccinazione è al centro di un progetto di ricerca dell’Istituto di comunicazione sanitaria (ICH) finanziato dal Fondo nazionale svizzero e condotto nell’ambito della strategia nazionale di prevenzione. Obiettivo dell'evento, aperto a tutti gli interessati, è di confrontare opinioni e atteggiamenti verso le vaccinazioni grazie agli interventi dei relatori invitati (ricercatori e medici) e del pubblico presente. L'appuntamento è per giovedì 16 ottobre alle 15.30 in aula A12 (campus di Lugano).

L'USI verso il cloud

Per integrare su cloud i servizi di messaggistica, voce, videoconferenza e gestione documentale l'USI ha adottato la piattaforma Office 365. Essa offre la possibilità di gestire posta elettronica, calendario e contatti (Exchange Online), di archiviare documenti (OneDrive for business), di comunicare tramite messaggistica istantanea, chiamate e videoconferenze (Lync Online), di leggere e editare documenti office (Office Web App), di creare siti intranet personali (Sharepoint Online) e di usare il social network per la comunicazione interna Yammer. An Interactive Exhibition to Celebrate the Faculty’s 10th Anniversary

Fractal flowers, interactive robots and virtual dinosaurs. Talks among computers, encrypted passwords and quantum phenomena. These are some of the themes of the exhibition that will be held on Saturday, October 18 in the Aula Magna of Lugano Campus. An opportunity to discover innovation in informatics and become acquainted with the research areas on which the Faculty focused in the past years.

Activities and conferences alongside the exhibition

On Saturday from 10am in the Aula Magna a Computational Playground will entertain children from the age of 3. At 11am Alessandra Gorla (Faculty’s PhD and researcher at Google California) will hold the presentation Informatics Careers: a day in a googler’s life, and at 2pm Massimo Banzi will hold the lecture Arduino: creativity and technology. At 3.30pm the pediatrician Andreas Wechsler and prof. Laura Pozzi will discuss about Informatics and child development. The event will end at 4.45pm with The Final Computation and the launch of the Faculty’s “computer’s domino”.

First Alumni in Tech Apero

To close the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Faculty of Informatics, a reception for all USI’s Alumni working in the tech field will be held on Saturday at 5.15pm in room A11 Lugano Campus. The Alumnus Cyrus Hall will share his academic and professional experience that led him to head a team of developers at Twitch in San Francisco (a company recently taken over by Amazon).

On Friday, October 24 at 1pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus the State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation Mauro dell’Ambrogio, USI’s prof. Lorenzo Cantoni, prof. Per Bergamin (Institute for Distance and eLearning Research, FFHS) and Andreas Ledergerber (Head of the Science and Technology Office, Washington Swiss Embassy) will tackle issues such as the rapid development of digital technologies and the possibilities to use them to reinvent higher education.

Water, Infrastructure and Memory

For the inventory of eng. Augusto Rima’s archive, the Academy of Architecture’s library will take part in the 9th Biennale dell’immagine with an exhibition of historical documents. The encounter will be held on Tuesday, October 14 at 6pm during the opening of the photo exhibition Water, Infrastructure and Memory with a presentation by prof. Luigi Lorenzetti, coordinator of LabiSAlp, the History of the Alps Study Centre.

Children and Vaccines: a conscious choice

The topic of vaccinations is the focus of ICH-Institute of Communication and Health's research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and carried out as part of the national strategy of prevention. The aim of the event open to anyone interested in the subject is to compare opinions and attitudes towards vaccinations, thanks to the participation of guest speakers (researchers and medical doctors), and the audience. The encounter will be held on Thursday, 16 October at 3.30pm in room A12 (Lugano Campus).

USI has adopted the platform Office 365 to integrate cloud messaging services, voice, video conferences, and document management. It offers the chance to manage e-mail, calendar and contact management (Exchange Online), to archive business documents (OneDrive), to communicate via instant messaging, voice and videoconferences (Lync Online), to read and edit office documents (Office Web App), to create personal intranet sites (Sharepoint Online) and to use Yammer social network for internal communication.
