LUGANO | | Giorgio Napolitano to make stop at USI During his state visit in Switzerland that will take him first to Geneva and Bern, the Italian President will make a stop on Lugano Campus on Wednesday, 21 May. After the address by State Councillor Manuele Bertoli and a speech by USI’s President Piero Martinoli, Napolitano will attend a lecture entitled The Value of the Cultural Weave between Italy and Switzerland, held in tandem by Mario
Botta and Carlo Ossola. More detailed information about invitations and the programme will follow. | | STUDY DAY AT THE ACADEMY OF ARCHITECTURE | | Residential Multi-Locality in the Alps A day of study of the History of the Alps Study Centre on multi locality, a reality that marks deep into the forms of settlement in
the
Alps, will be held on Friday, 16 May at 9.30am in Villa Argentina (Mendrisio Campus). Inspired by the ongoing debate on the proliferation of secondary residences in the Alps, the seminar will observe in the long-term the implications regarding the multi-residential use of local resources and its impact on the definition of territoriality in the mountain community. >>> | | FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION SCIENCES | | Professor Rigotti's Farewell Lecture First Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Professor Eddo Rigotti devoted his academic career to the study of linguistic and argumentation. At USI he founded, among other things, The Institute of Argumentation, Linguistics and Semiotics, The Laboratory of Public Argumentation and is among the pioneer of the publication
Studies in Communication Sciences. His lecture entitled Farewell will be held on Thursday, 22 May at 5pm in the Auditorium (Lugano Campus) and it will be the opportunity to pay tribute to the valuable work he carried out on behalf of our University. >>> | | SWISS CORPORATE COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS OBSERVATORY | | Published, the third Study on Corporate Communication and Public Relations in Switzerland The study involved more than 400 professionals and it is the only comprehensive research on the evolution and trends in the field of public relations and corporate communication in Switzerland. Fostered by USI, BPRA, HarbourClub, pr suisse and SPRI, and coordinated on USI’s part by prof. Francesco Lurati, it provides a complete overview of self-representations, structures and practice of the profession. Pardolesi at the University LUISS “Guido Carli” of Rome will hold a seminar entitled An Economic Analysis of the Law. The Italian Job, addressed to all Bachelor’s students in Economics within the course of Economic Analysis of Law held by prof. Massimiliano Vatiero. The seminar, which is part of the activities of the Brenno Galli Chair, is open to the public. Professor Pardolesi is considered one of the greatest Italian experts in the field of antitrust and economic analysis of law. >>> | | PRO VENEZIA SWISS FOUNDATION AND USI’S UNESCO CHAIR | | Switzerland for Venice is now online The Foundation supports the recovery and preservation of the Venetian’s artistic heritage, with a careful eye on the works of the many Swiss architects, artists and artisans active throughout the centuries in the Serenissima Republic of Venice. The platform is the result of an online communication project of three students of the laboratory webatelier.net, as part of the UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites headed by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences prof. USI Placement Survey gets underway The 2014 survey analyses the employment situation of 2008 and
2012/2013 graduates (1 year and 5 years from graduation). The purpose is to understand graduates job placement and the results are published annually online and in a publication entitled USI Placement Report. The survey is anonymous to ensure confidentiality, and only aggregate data are used. >>> | | TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY OF USI EMPLOYEES | | Bike to work 2014 Once again this year, USI employees (professors, assistant and staff) have the opportunity to take part in the contest to promote the use of bicycles as a mean of transportation from home to work. To participate in the raffle, simply form a team of four people who will go to work by bicycle for at least a small part of the route during the month of June.
