INSTITUTE | | Presentation of the 41st European Finance Association Annual Meeting The press conference for the presentation of this important encounter is currently underway. The meeting will be held at the Lugano Convention Centre from 27 to 30 August, with the participation of Robert J. Shiller, recipient of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Economics, Professor of Economics at Yale University and one of the most influential and independent observer of the financial landscape in recent years. The European Finance Association was created in Cambridge in 1974 with the aim of bringing together the best of the academic community in the field of Economics
on a
European level. More than 600 industry experts are already enrolled in this year’s meeting. >>> | | TONIGHT IN THE AULA MAGNA OF LUGANO CAMPUS | | Graduation Ceremony for 132 new Graduates in Economics and Communication 24 Bachelor’s degrees, 106 two-year Masters and 2 Masters of Advanced Studies will be conferred today
at 5.30pm.
The graduates – hailing from over 20 different countries – will be awarded 33 degrees in Communication Sciences, 73 in Economics and 26 interfaculty diplomas earned by attending joint programmes. Tuesday, 6 May at 6pm the Academy Library will host the presentation of the site www.gioponti.org, featuring an immense collection of sketches, drawings, photographs and documents of different nature. The selection, in particular the professional correspondence recently digitized (about 100,000 letters), will allow a new insight on the work of the Milanese architect and his time. The presentation aims at introducing a new privileged relationship between the Academy and the Gio Ponti Archive in order to promote unpublished researches and support the work of student and researchers. >>> | | IDEATORIO | | Brainarium: an exhibit for our senses and brain The memory, the dream, and language, rest on a soft structure made of flesh: the brain. Even our ability to perceive reality through our senses relies on the complex structure of our brain. But how is it possible for our brain to see, hear, love and speak? Suitable for
audiences of all age, the exhibit will open on Saturday, 10 May in Villa Ciani (Parco Ciani, Lugano) and will continue until 15 June. It is conceived by USI’s Ideatorio in cooperation with the Brain Mind

Mumbai, Bijoy Jain graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and later worked in Los Angeles and London. In1995 he returned to India and founded Studio Mumbai, a place where artisans and architects design and
build his work. His works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale and at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and won numerous awards including Global Award in Sustainable Architecture (2009) and the BSI Swiss Architectural Award (2012). The lecture will be held on Thursday, 8 May at 7.30pm in the Aula Magna of Mendrisio Campus. >>> | | LECTURE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | | The Swiss-Rumanian Writer Catalin Dorian Florescu at USI On Wednesday, 7 May the author will hold a lecture as part of the course 'German Culture and Writing'. The encounter is scheduled for 2.45pm in room A13 (Lugano Campus). The writer will meet with the audience for a reading of excerpts from his books and to answer questions, until 4pm. Catalin Dorian Florescu was born in Timisoara and studied at the University of Zurich were he currently lives. >>> |
