Studenti USI a quota 3'000, occupazione in linea con la media svizzera

Gli studenti immatricolati sono 3'015, con una crescita di 96 unità rispetto allo scorso anno accademico: 764 studiano architettura, 1076 economia, 871 comunicazione e 304 informatica. Gli iscritti provengono per il 25.4% dal Ticino, il 7.3% da altri cantoni, il 44% dall’Italia e il 23.3% da altri Paesi. Secondo l’indagine laureati 2013, a un anno dalla laurea risulta occupato il 90,9% dei diplomati USI (con il 74,2% che lavora, il 14,2% che prosegue la sua formazione e il 2,5% che ha optato per altre scelte), percentuale che a cinque anni dalla laurea risulta del 95,2%.

L'USI accettata all'unanimità nella fondazione SystemsX

SystemsX.ch è l'iniziativa svizzera di ricerca in biologia dei sistemi che raggruppa attualmente tredici partner, tra i quali i due politecnici federali e otto università. Per essere efficaci in questo settore è essenziale che diverse discipline che in passato avevano poco a che fare l'una con l'altra lavorino insieme: circa 300 gruppi di ricerca contribuiscono ai progetti dell'iniziativa, creando una rete che copre la Svizzera intera. L'USI accede a SystemsX.ch grazie alla ricerca scientifica svolta dall'Istituto di Ricerca in Biomedicina e dall'Istituto di scienze computazionali.

Presentazione dei progetti semestrali

L'appuntamento è per mercoledì 18 dicembre, a partire dalle 14.00, nell'auditorio del campus di Lugano. Dopo l'introduzione del Decano Michele Lanza, i prof. Jazayeri, Pautasso, Nystrom, Hormann e Langheinrich illustreranno cosa ferve nei cantieri di Programming Fundamentals, Software Atelier, Computer Graphics e Ubiquitous Computing Lab attraverso le presentazioni dei lavori di semestre da parte degli studenti.

La Casa dell'Accademia a Mendrisio tra le 10 migliori al mondo

Il quotidiano britannico The Guardian ha selezionato la casa per studenti progettata dagli architetti Könz-Molo e Barchi tra le dieci migliori al mondo. La casa per studenti della nostra Accademia di architettura è stata particolarmente apprezzata per come "le due ali dell'infrastruttura incorniciano la spettacolare vista sulle Alpi" ed è stato sottolineato come i diversi spazi comuni previsti per la socializzazione la rendano una scelta molto popolare tra gli studenti.

Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda

Martedì 17 dicembre alle 20.45 al Teatro Foce di Lugano l'attrice torinese Irene Zagrebelsky restituisce la parola del Tasso alla sua prima vocalità, raccoglie il verso nella sola scena del testo: «per voce sola» non è più titolo o programma, ma il cuore stesso dell’esperienza di poesia. La rassegna è coordinata dall'Istituto di studi italiani dell'USI in collaborazione con l'Area Turismo ed Eventi della Città di Lugano.

Per Natale regala una gamba

SwissLeg, che produce protesi gambali a prezzi accessibili per i Paesi più poveri, è attiva anche a Irbid in Giordania e fabbrica gambe artificiali per amputati siriani che trovano rifugio oltre il confine. Con soli 700 CHF un amputato può riacquistare la mobilità e tornare ad una vita attiva e produttiva. È possibile donare l'intera gamba o offrire un contributo più piccolo, ma altrettanto importante (1 piede 70 CHF, 1 passo 7 CHF o contributo libero).

Scienza e tecnologia al servizio dello sport

La manifestazione, aperta a tutto il pubblico interessato, si terrà dal 14 al 17 gennaio presso il Centro sportivo nazionale della gioventù (CST) di Tenero. Atelier avvincenti e innovativi permetteranno di scoprire le ultime novità scientifiche e tecnologiche applicate in ambito sportivo. La Facoltà di scienze informatiche sarà presente con il progetto Piattaforme virtuali e visualizzazioni 3D sviluppato dagli studenti di Master Raphael Schapfel e di dottorato Teseo Schneider, sotto la supervisione del prof. Kai Hormann.

Fondata la sezione luganese di AEGEE

AEGEE (Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l’Europe) - meglio conosciuta in italiano come 'Forum degli Studenti Europei' - è una delle più grandi associazioni studentesche interdisciplinari d'Europa. Prende il nome dal Mar Egeo, uno dei luoghi dove nacque la democrazia, e dal primo parlamento costituito all'inizio della Rivoluzione francese, gli 'Etats Généraux'. Fondata nel 1985 a Parigi, oggi AEGEE è presente in circa 200 città di 40 diversi paesi.

3,000 Students at USI, Occupation in Line with Swiss Average

3,015 students are enrolled at USI, which is an increase of 96 compared to the previous academic year. 25.4% of our students come from Ticino, 7.3% from other Cantons, 44% from Italy, and 23.3% from other countries. 764 study architecture, 1,076 economics, 871 communication and 304 informatics. According to a survey conducted among graduates from 2013, one year after graduation 90.9% of USI graduates are occupied (74.2% have a job, 14.2% continued their education, 2.5% opted for other choices); this percentage amounts to 95.2% five years after graduation.

USI accepted unanimously in the SystemsX Foundation

SystemsX.ch is a Swiss initiative dedicated to research in systems biology that currently comprises 13 partners, among which are the two Federal Institutes of Technology and eight universities. For research to be effective in this area of science, it is absolutely essential that disciplines that formerly had little to do with each other work together: around 300 research groups from various disciplines are working on projects related to the initiative, thus creating a network that covers whole Switzerland. USI has joined systemsX.ch thanks to the scientific research activities of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine and the Institute of Computational Sciences.

Fall Semester Project Presentations

The project presentations of the Faculty of Informatics will take place on Wednesday, 18 December, starting from 2pm, in the Auditorium on Lugano Campus. After an introduction by the Dean Prof. Michele Lanza, the Professors Jazayeri, Pautasso, Nystrom, Hormann and Langheinrich will show what is in progress in the areas of Programming Fundamentals, Software, Computer Graphics and Ubiquitous Computing. For this purpose, informatics students will present their projects of last semester.

The Casa dell'Accademia in Mendrisio among the Top 10 in the World

The renowned British daily newspaper The Guardian has listed the student accommodation, which was designed by the architects Könz-Molo and Barchi, among the best 10 worldwide. The jury appreciated the student housing of our Academy of Architecture particularly due to “the two wings of the infrastructure that thrust forward to frame a spectacular view of the snow-capped Swiss Alps”. Moreover, it is emphasised how the various shared spaces facilitate socialisation and make the Casa a popular choice among students.

The Fight of Tancredi and Clorinda

On Tuesday, 17 December, at 8.45pm, at the Teatro Foce of Lugano, the actress from Turin Irene Zagrebelsky will recite the original and pure voice of Tasso’s poetry, the voice of the text only: "per voce sola" is not anymore the title or programme, it is the very heart of the poetic experience. The series is coordinated by USI's Institute of Italian Studies, in collaboration with Lugano’s Area Turismo ed Eventi.

Donate a Leg for Christmas

SwissLeg, which produces leg prosthetics at affordable prices for the world’s poorest countries, is also active in Irbid, in Jordan, and produces artificial legs for Syrian amputees that took refuge beyond the border. With only CHF 700 an amputee can become mobile and have an active and productive life again. It is possible to donate an entire leg or to make a smaller, but equally important contribution (1 foot CHF 70, 1 step CHF 7 or a free contribution).

Science and Technology at the Service of Sports

The fifth Sportech, which is open to all interested public, will be held from 14 to 17 January, in the premises of the National Sport Centre (CST) of Tenero. Engaging and innovative workshops will uncover the latest scientific and technological findings applied to the field of sports. On that occasion, the Faculty of Informatics will present the project Virtual platforms and 3D visualisations, which was developed by the Master student Raphael Schapfel and the PhD candidate Teseo Schneider, under the supervision of Prof. Kai Hormann.

New Contact of AEGEE established in Lugano

The AEGEE (Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l’Europe), better known as the ‘European Students’ Forum’ in English, is one of the largest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe. The name derives from the Aegean Sea, one of the birthplaces of democracy, and from the parliament that was established at the beginning of the French Revolution, the “Etats Généraux”. The AEGEE was founded in 1985 in Paris, and is present in around 200 cities of 40 different countries.
