Fumano tanto, iniziano presto e imparano da noi

L’Istituto di Communication and Health dell’USI, in collaborazione con l’Associazione Svizzera Non-fumatori (ASN), ha reso noti i risultati una ricerca sul consumo di sigarette da parte degli studenti delle scuole medie della Svizzera italiana. Grazie al sostegno offerto dal DECS, lo studio si basa su di un campione di ben 5600 intervistati tra gli 11 ed i 15 anni. Ne emerge un quadro allarmante: il 23.5% dei rispondenti ha fumato almeno una sigaretta, percentuale che cresce fino al 44.6% tra gli studenti di quarta media.

Cerimonia di consegna dei diplomi per 198 economisti

Ai diplomati, provenienti di 34 diverse nazionalità, sono stati conferiti 91 diplomi di Bachelor e 107 di Master biennale. Costanza Naguib si è aggiudicata due premi: quello istituito dall'Associazione Bancaria Ticinese per aver conseguito la miglior media nel programma di Bachelor e il Premio Pietro Balestra per le materie quantitative, creato da BSI SA. Gloria Urrea Castano ha invece ottenuto il premio ABT per i migliori risultati nel programma di Master.

160 neodiplomati in Scienze della comunicazione

Lunedì scorso sono stati conferiti 58 diplomi di Bachelor,  94 di Master biennale e 8 di dottorato. Il premio ABB-ALSTOM al miglior dottorato è stato assegnato alla Dr. Elena Marchiori, Andrea Ursula Heller si è aggiudicata quello al miglior Master e Anna Piccoli quello al miglior diploma di Bachelor. Il Premio Alma Bacciarini per il miglior Master in Lingua, letteratura e civiltà italiana è stato vinto da Pamela Trincado. Congratulazioni a tutti i neolaureati e ai premiati di entrambe le Facoltà!

Scenografia, architettura e spazio scenico

Con la conferenza di Nick Ormerod, tra i più interessanti scenografi del panorama europeo, continua il nuovo ciclo di cinque incontri pubblici dedicati dall'Accademia al rapporto tra pratica architettonica e arte scenica nell'ottica dell'evoluzione del teatro pubblico. A SwissLeg il premio BSI per la miglior idea imprenditoriale in Ticino

Il riconoscimento di 10.000 CHF è stato assegnato a due tra i principali promotori dell’iniziativa, Roberto Agosta e il prof. Paulo Gonçalves. L’originale impronta innovativa del progetto e la sua valenza sul piano umanitario sono state le principali motivazioni dell’attribuzione: grazie a nuovi particolari materiali (polimeri), la start-up nata all'USI è infatti in grado di realizzare protesi su misura di ottima qualità, a basso costo e in tempi molto ridotti.

Le competenze interculturali nell’educazione globale

In un contesto sempre più multiculturale quali competenze sono diventate necessarie nella professione di insegnante? Venerdì 6 novembre alle 8.45 nell’Aula magna del campus di Lugano saranno presentati i risultati di un progetto condotto dall’Istituto Universitario Federale per la Formazione Professionale in collaborazione con 9 partner europei, tra i quali l’USI. Uomini al lavoro a tempo parziale: perché no?

A partire da oggi pomeriggio e per qualche settimana l’esposizione “Io non lascio il tempo che trovo!” farà tappa sul campus di Lugano. Promossa dalla Società degli impiegati di commercio del Ticino e dall’Ufficio federale dell’uguaglianza, la mostra si compone di sette ritratti filmati che presentano le scelte di altrettanti uomini, padri di famiglia, che hanno deciso di lavorare meno per consentire alla propria moglie o compagna di restare professionalmente attiva. La mostra sarà accompagnata da alcuni pannelli a cura del Servizio per le pari opportunità dell'USI.

La donazione di settimana scorsa è stata un successo: grazie a tutti!

La Fondazione Servizio Trasfusionale della Croce Rossa svizzera della Svizzera italiana, con cui l'USI ha organizzato le due giornate, ha definito la donazione "un successo". Allo stand si sono presentati ben 136 volontari: hanno potuto donare in 105 (59 donne e 46 uomini) e sono stati raccolti quasi 50 litri di sangue, che serviranno a curare circa 210 pazienti.

They smoke a lot, they start early, and they learn from us

USI’s Institute of Communciation and Health (ICH), in collaboration with Switzerland’s Non-Smoking Association (ASN), has published the results of a study on cigarette consumption  by students of Ticino’s "scuole medie" (11 to 15 years). Thanks to the support provided by the canton’s education, sports and culture department (DECS), the study was based on a sample consisting of around 5.600 interviewees between 11 and 15 years old. The findings reveal an alarming situation: 23.5% of respondents have already smoked at least one cigarette. This percentage rises to even 44.6% among students attending the last year of "scuole medie".

Graduation Ceremony for 198 Economists

Graduates hailing from 34 different countries were awarded 91 Bachelor’s and 107 two-year Master’s degrees. Costanza Naguib received two prizes: the Ticino Bankers Association award for the highest average mark in a Bachelor's programme, and the Pietro Balestra Prize for quantitative subjects, which is funded by BSI SA. Gloria Urrea Castano, in turn, obtained the ABT prize for the best results in a Master’s programme.

Last Monday, 58 Bachelor’s, 94 two-year Master’s and 8 PhD diplomas were awarded. Dr. Elena Marchiori received the ABB-ALSTOM prize for the best PhD. Scenography, Architecture and the Stage

Continuation of the new series of five public conferences organised by the Academy and dedicated to the relationship between architectural practices and scenic art, looked at from the perspective of public theatre’s evolution: this time, it will be Nick Ormerod, one of Europe’s most interesting stage designers, to discuss the topic. The conference will be held on Thursday, 5 December, at 7.30pm, in the Aula Magna of Mendrisio Campus.

SwissLeg receives BSI Prize for best Business Idea in Ticino

The CHF 10,000 prize was awarded to two of the main promoters of the initiative, Roberto Agosta and Prof. Paulo Gonçalves. The original and innovative idea underlying the project and its humanitarian value were the major motives impacting the jury's decision: the start-up, which was created at USI, has been able thanks to new special materials (polymer) to produce customized high quality leg prosthetics at affordable prices and in very short time.

Men working Part-Time: why not?

Starting from this afternoon, the exhibition will be on Lugano Campus for some weeks. It is promoted by Ticino’s Society of Commercial Professionals and by the Federal Office for Gender Equality, and it consists of seven film portraits about men – family men –, who decided to work less in order to enable their wives or partners to stay professionally active.

Last Week’s Donation was a Success: thanks to everyone!

Ticino’s Transfusional Service of the Swiss Red Cross, in collaboration with which USI organized the two days, has defined the event as a success. In fact, 136 volunteers presented themselves at the stand: in total, 105 people could donate blood (59 women and 46 men) and about 50 litres of blood were collected. They will be used to cure around 210 patients.
