YOUTHS | | They smoke a lot, they start early, and they learn from us USI’s Institute of Communciation and Health (ICH), in collaboration with Switzerland’s Non-Smoking Association (ASN), has published the results of a study on cigarette consumption by students of Ticino’s "scuole medie" (11 to 15 years). Thanks to the support provided by the canton’s education, sports and culture department (DECS), the study was based on a sample consisting of around 5.600 interviewees between 11 and 15 years old. The findings reveal an alarming situation: 23.5% of respondents have already smoked at least one cigarette.
This percentage rises to even 44.6% among

Bachelor’s, 94 two-year Master’s and 8 PhD diplomas were awarded. Dr. Elena Marchiori received the ABB-ALSTOM prize for the best PhD. Anna Piccoli obtained the prize for the best Bachelor’s diploma, Andrea Ursula Heller the one for the best results in a Master’s programme. The Alma Bacciarini Prize for the best Master’s diploma in Lingua, letteratura e civiltà italiana was awarded to Pamela Trincado. Last Week’s Donation was a Success: thanks to everyone! Ticino’s Transfusional Service of the Swiss Red Cross, in collaboration with which USI organized the two days, has defined the event as a success. In fact, 136 volunteers presented themselves at the stand: in total, 105 people could donate blood (59 women and 46 men) and about 50 litres of blood were collected.
